## At-Takaathur

**Translation:** Competition
**Revelation:** Meccan

### Pre-Bismillah

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

*In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.*

### Verses

#### Verse 1

أَلْهَاكُمُ التَّكَاثُرُ

**Transliteration:** Al haaku mut takathur

**Translation:** Competition in [worldly] increase diverts you

#### Verse 2

حَتَّىٰ زُرْتُمُ الْمَقَابِرَ

**Transliteration:** Hatta zurtumul-maqaabir

**Translation:** Until you visit the graveyards.

#### Verse 3

كَلَّا سَوْفَ تَعْلَمُونَ

**Transliteration:** Kalla sawfa ta'lamoon

**Translation:** No! You are going to know.

#### Verse 4

ثُمَّ كَلَّا سَوْفَ تَعْلَمُونَ

**Transliteration:** Thumma kalla sawfa ta'lamoon

**Translation:** Then no! You are going to know.

#### Verse 5

كَلَّا لَوْ تَعْلَمُونَ عِلْمَ الْيَقِينِ

**Transliteration:** Kalla law ta'lamoona 'ilmal yaqeen

**Translation:** No! If you only knew with knowledge of certainty...

#### Verse 6

لَتَرَوُنَّ الْجَحِيمَ

**Transliteration:** Latara-wun nal jaheem

**Translation:** You will surely see the Hellfire.

#### Verse 7

ثُمَّ لَتَرَوُنَّهَا عَيْنَ الْيَقِينِ

**Transliteration:** Thumma latara wunnaha 'ainal yaqeen

**Translation:** Then you will surely see it with the eye of certainty.

#### Verse 8

ثُمَّ لَتُسْأَلُنَّ يَوْمَئِذٍ عَنِ النَّعِيمِ

**Transliteration:** Thumma latus alunna yauma-izin 'anin na'eem

**Translation:** Then you will surely be asked that Day about pleasure.
