### Pre-Bismillah

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

*In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.*

### Verses

#### Verse 1

الر ۚ تِلْكَ آيَاتُ الْكِتَابِ وَقُرْآنٍ مُّبِينٍ

**Transliteration:** Alif-Laaam-Raa; tilka Aayaatul Kitaabi wa Qur-aa-nim Mubeen

**Translation:** Alif, Lam, Ra. These are the verses of the Book and a clear Qur'an.

#### Verse 2

رُّبَمَا يَوَدُّ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا لَوْ كَانُوا مُسْلِمِينَ

**Transliteration:** Rubamaa yawaddul lazeena kafaroo law kaanoo muslimeen

**Translation:** Perhaps those who disbelieve will wish that they had been Muslims.

#### Verse 3

ذَرْهُمْ يَأْكُلُوا وَيَتَمَتَّعُوا وَيُلْهِهِمُ الْأَمَلُ ۖ فَسَوْفَ يَعْلَمُونَ

**Transliteration:** Zarhum yaakuloo wa tatamatta'oo wa yulhihimul amalu fasawfa ya'lamoon

**Translation:** Let them eat and enjoy themselves and be diverted by [false] hope, for they are going to know.

#### Verse 4

وَمَا أَهْلَكْنَا مِن قَرْيَةٍ إِلَّا وَلَهَا كِتَابٌ مَّعْلُومٌ

**Transliteration:** Wa maaa ahlaknaa min qaryatin illaa wa lahaa kitaabum ma'loom

**Translation:** And We did not destroy any city but that for it was a known decree.

#### Verse 5

مَّا تَسْبِقُ مِنْ أُمَّةٍ أَجَلَهَا وَمَا يَسْتَأْخِرُونَ

**Transliteration:** Maa tasbiqu min ummatin ajalahaa wa maa yastaakhiroon

**Translation:** No nation will precede its term, nor will they remain thereafter.

#### Verse 6

وَقَالُوا يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِي نُزِّلَ عَلَيْهِ الذِّكْرُ إِنَّكَ لَمَجْنُونٌ

**Transliteration:** Wa qaaloo yaaa aiyuhal lazee nuzzila 'alaihiz Zikru innaka lamajnoon

**Translation:** And they say, "O you upon whom the message has been sent down, indeed you are mad.

#### Verse 7

لَّوْ مَا تَأْتِينَا بِالْمَلَائِكَةِ إِن كُنتَ مِنَ الصَّادِقِينَ

**Transliteration:** Law maa taateenaa bil malaaa'ikati in kunta minas saadiqeen

**Translation:** Why do you not bring us the angels, if you should be among the truthful?"

#### Verse 8

مَا نُنَزِّلُ الْمَلَائِكَةَ إِلَّا بِالْحَقِّ وَمَا كَانُوا إِذًا مُّنظَرِينَ

**Transliteration:** Maa nunazzilul malaaa'i kata illaa bilhaqqi wa maa kaanooo izam munzareen

**Translation:** We do not send down the angels except with truth; and the disbelievers would not then be reprieved.

#### Verse 9

إِنَّا نَحْنُ نَزَّلْنَا الذِّكْرَ وَإِنَّا لَهُ لَحَافِظُونَ

**Transliteration:** Innaa Nahnu nazalnaz Zikra wa Innaa lahoo lahaa fizoon

**Translation:** Indeed, it is We who sent down the Qur'an and indeed, We will be its guardian.

#### Verse 10

وَلَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا مِن قَبْلِكَ فِي شِيَعِ الْأَوَّلِينَ

**Transliteration:** Wa laqad arsalnaa min qablika fee shiya'il awwaleen

**Translation:** And We had certainly sent [messengers] before you, [O Muhammad], among the sects of the former peoples.

#### Verse 11

وَمَا يَأْتِيهِم مِّن رَّسُولٍ إِلَّا كَانُوا بِهِ يَسْتَهْزِئُونَ

**Transliteration:** Wa maa yaateehim mir Rasoolin illaa kaanoo bihee yastahzi'oon

**Translation:** And no messenger would come to them except that they ridiculed him.

#### Verse 12

كَذَٰلِكَ نَسْلُكُهُ فِي قُلُوبِ الْمُجْرِمِينَ

**Transliteration:** kazaalika naslukuhoo fee quloobil mujrimeen

**Translation:** Thus do We insert denial into the hearts of the criminals.

#### Verse 13

لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِهِ ۖ وَقَدْ خَلَتْ سُنَّةُ الْأَوَّلِينَ

**Transliteration:** Laa yu'minoona bihee wa qad khalat sunnatul awwaleen

**Translation:** They will not believe in it, while there has already occurred the precedent of the former peoples.

#### Verse 14

وَلَوْ فَتَحْنَا عَلَيْهِم بَابًا مِّنَ السَّمَاءِ فَظَلُّوا فِيهِ يَعْرُجُونَ

**Transliteration:** Wa law fatahnaa 'alaihim baabam minas samaaa'i fazaloo feehi ya'rujoon

**Translation:** And [even] if We opened to them a gate from the heaven and they continued therein to ascend,

#### Verse 15

لَقَالُوا إِنَّمَا سُكِّرَتْ أَبْصَارُنَا بَلْ نَحْنُ قَوْمٌ مَّسْحُورُونَ

**Transliteration:** Laqaaloo innamaa sukkirat absaarunaa bal nahnu qawmum mashooroon

**Translation:** They would say, "Our eyes have only been dazzled. Rather, we are a people affected by magic."

#### Verse 16

وَلَقَدْ جَعَلْنَا فِي السَّمَاءِ بُرُوجًا وَزَيَّنَّاهَا لِلنَّاظِرِينَ

**Transliteration:** Wa laqad ja'alnaa fissamaaa'i buroojanw wa zaiyannaahaa linnaazireen

**Translation:** And We have placed within the heaven great stars and have beautified it for the observers.

#### Verse 17

وَحَفِظْنَاهَا مِن كُلِّ شَيْطَانٍ رَّجِيمٍ

**Transliteration:** Wa hafiznaahaa min kulli Shaitaanir rajeem

**Translation:** And We have protected it from every devil expelled [from the mercy of Allah]

#### Verse 18

إِلَّا مَنِ اسْتَرَقَ السَّمْعَ فَأَتْبَعَهُ شِهَابٌ مُّبِينٌ

**Transliteration:** Illaa manis taraqas sam'a fa atba'ahoo shihaabum mubeen

**Translation:** Except one who steals a hearing and is pursued by a clear burning flame.

#### Verse 19

وَالْأَرْضَ مَدَدْنَاهَا وَأَلْقَيْنَا فِيهَا رَوَاسِيَ وَأَنبَتْنَا فِيهَا مِن كُلِّ شَيْءٍ مَّوْزُونٍ

**Transliteration:** Wal arda madadnaahaa wa alqainaa feehaa rawaasiya wa ambatnaa feehaa min kulli shai'im mawzoon

**Translation:** And the earth - We have spread it and cast therein firmly set mountains and caused to grow therein [something] of every well-balanced thing.

#### Verse 20

وَجَعَلْنَا لَكُمْ فِيهَا مَعَايِشَ وَمَن لَّسْتُمْ لَهُ بِرَازِقِينَ

**Transliteration:** Wa ja'alnaa lakum feehaa ma'aayisha wa mal lastum lahoo biraaziqeen

**Translation:** And We have made for you therein means of living and [for] those for whom you are not providers.

#### Verse 21

وَإِن مِّن شَيْءٍ إِلَّا عِندَنَا خَزَائِنُهُ وَمَا نُنَزِّلُهُ إِلَّا بِقَدَرٍ مَّعْلُومٍ

**Transliteration:** Wa im min shai'in illaa 'indanaa khazaaa 'inuhoo wa maa nunazziluhooo illaa biqadarim ma'loom

**Translation:** And there is not a thing but that with Us are its depositories, and We do not send it down except according to a known measure.

#### Verse 22

وَأَرْسَلْنَا الرِّيَاحَ لَوَاقِحَ فَأَنزَلْنَا مِنَ السَّمَاءِ مَاءً فَأَسْقَيْنَاكُمُوهُ وَمَا أَنتُمْ لَهُ بِخَازِنِينَ

**Transliteration:** Wa arsalnar riyaaha la waaqiha fa anzalnaa minas samaaa'i maaa'an fa asqai naakumoohu wa maaa antum lahoo bikhaazineen

**Translation:** And We have sent the fertilizing winds and sent down water from the sky and given you drink from it. And you are not its retainers.

#### Verse 23

وَإِنَّا لَنَحْنُ نُحْيِي وَنُمِيتُ وَنَحْنُ الْوَارِثُونَ

**Transliteration:** Wa innnaa la nahnu nuhyee wa numeetu wa nahnul waarisoon

**Translation:** And indeed, it is We who give life and cause death, and We are the Inheritor.

#### Verse 24

وَلَقَدْ عَلِمْنَا الْمُسْتَقْدِمِينَ مِنكُمْ وَلَقَدْ عَلِمْنَا الْمُسْتَأْخِرِينَ

**Transliteration:** Wa la qad 'alimnal mustaqdimeena minkum wa laqad 'alimnal mustaakhireen

**Translation:** And We have already known the preceding [generations] among you, and We have already known the later [ones to come].

#### Verse 25

وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ يَحْشُرُهُمْ ۚ إِنَّهُ حَكِيمٌ عَلِيمٌ

**Transliteration:** Wa inna Rabbaka Huwa yahshuruhum; innahoo Hakeem 'Aleem

**Translation:** And indeed, your Lord will gather them; indeed, He is Wise and Knowing.

#### Verse 26

وَلَقَدْ خَلَقْنَا الْإِنسَانَ مِن صَلْصَالٍ مِّنْ حَمَإٍ مَّسْنُونٍ

**Transliteration:** Wa laqad khalaqnal insaana min salsaalim min hama im masnoon

**Translation:** And We did certainly create man out of clay from an altered black mud.

#### Verse 27

وَالْجَانَّ خَلَقْنَاهُ مِن قَبْلُ مِن نَّارِ السَّمُومِ

**Transliteration:** Waljaaanna khalaqnaahu min qablu min naaris samoom

**Translation:** And the jinn We created before from scorching fire.

#### Verse 28

وَإِذْ قَالَ رَبُّكَ لِلْمَلَائِكَةِ إِنِّي خَالِقٌ بَشَرًا مِّن صَلْصَالٍ مِّنْ حَمَإٍ مَّسْنُونٍ

**Transliteration:** Wa iz qaala Rabbuka lilmalaaa' ikati innee khaaliqum basharam min salsaalim min hama im masnoon

**Translation:** And [mention, O Muhammad], when your Lord said to the angels, "I will create a human being out of clay from an altered black mud.

#### Verse 29

فَإِذَا سَوَّيْتُهُ وَنَفَخْتُ فِيهِ مِن رُّوحِي فَقَعُوا لَهُ سَاجِدِينَ

**Transliteration:** Fa izaa sawwaituhoo wa nafakhtu feehi mir roohee faqa'oo lahoo saajideen

**Translation:** And when I have proportioned him and breathed into him of My [created] soul, then fall down to him in prostration."

#### Verse 30

فَسَجَدَ الْمَلَائِكَةُ كُلُّهُمْ أَجْمَعُونَ

**Transliteration:** Fasajadal malaaa'ikatu kulluhum ajma'oon

**Translation:** So the angels prostrated - all of them entirely,

#### Verse 31

إِلَّا إِبْلِيسَ أَبَىٰ أَن يَكُونَ مَعَ السَّاجِدِينَ

**Transliteration:** Illaaa ibleesa abaaa ai yakoona ma'as saajideen

**Translation:** Except Iblees, he refused to be with those who prostrated.

#### Verse 32

قَالَ يَا إِبْلِيسُ مَا لَكَ أَلَّا تَكُونَ مَعَ السَّاجِدِينَ

**Transliteration:** Qaala yaaa Ibleesu maa laka allaa takoona ma'as saajideen

**Translation:** [Allah] said, O Iblees, what is [the matter] with you that you are not with those who prostrate?"

#### Verse 33

قَالَ لَمْ أَكُن لِّأَسْجُدَ لِبَشَرٍ خَلَقْتَهُ مِن صَلْصَالٍ مِّنْ حَمَإٍ مَّسْنُونٍ

**Transliteration:** Qaala lam akul li asjuda libasharin khalaqtahoo min salsaalim min hama im masnoon

**Translation:** He said, "Never would I prostrate to a human whom You created out of clay from an altered black mud."

#### Verse 34

قَالَ فَاخْرُجْ مِنْهَا فَإِنَّكَ رَجِيمٌ

**Transliteration:** Qaala fakhruj minhaa fa innaka rajeem

**Translation:** [Allah] said, "Then get out of it, for indeed, you are expelled.

#### Verse 35

وَإِنَّ عَلَيْكَ اللَّعْنَةَ إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ الدِّينِ

**Transliteration:** Wa inna 'alikal la'nata ilaa Yawmid Deen

**Translation:** And indeed, upon you is the curse until the Day of Recompense."

#### Verse 36

قَالَ رَبِّ فَأَنظِرْنِي إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ يُبْعَثُونَ

**Transliteration:** Qaala Rabbi fa anzirneee ilaa Yawmi yub'asoon

**Translation:** He said, "My Lord, then reprieve me until the Day they are resurrected."

#### Verse 37

قَالَ فَإِنَّكَ مِنَ الْمُنظَرِينَ

**Transliteration:** Qaala fa innaka minal munzareen

**Translation:** [Allah] said, "So indeed, you are of those reprieved

#### Verse 38

إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ الْوَقْتِ الْمَعْلُومِ

**Transliteration:** Ilaa Yawmil waqtil ma'loom

**Translation:** Until the Day of the time well-known."

#### Verse 39

قَالَ رَبِّ بِمَا أَغْوَيْتَنِي لَأُزَيِّنَنَّ لَهُمْ فِي الْأَرْضِ وَلَأُغْوِيَنَّهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ

**Transliteration:** Qaala Rabbi bimaaa aghwaitanee la uzayyinaana lahum fil ardi wa la ughwiyan nahum ajma'een

**Translation:** [Iblees] said, "My Lord, because You have put me in error, I will surely make [disobedience] attractive to them on earth, and I will mislead them all

#### Verse 40

إِلَّا عِبَادَكَ مِنْهُمُ الْمُخْلَصِينَ

**Transliteration:** Illaa 'ibaadaka minhumul mukhlaseen

**Translation:** Except, among them, Your chosen servants."

#### Verse 41

قَالَ هَٰذَا صِرَاطٌ عَلَيَّ مُسْتَقِيمٌ

**Transliteration:** Qaala haaza Siraatun 'alaiya Mustaqeem

**Translation:** [Allah] said, "This is a path [of return] to Me [that is] straight.

#### Verse 42

إِنَّ عِبَادِي لَيْسَ لَكَ عَلَيْهِمْ سُلْطَانٌ إِلَّا مَنِ اتَّبَعَكَ مِنَ الْغَاوِينَ

**Transliteration:** Inna 'ibaadee laisa laka 'alaihim sultaanun illaa manittaba'aka minal ghaaween

**Translation:** Indeed, My servants - no authority will you have over them, except those who follow you of the deviators.

#### Verse 43

وَإِنَّ جَهَنَّمَ لَمَوْعِدُهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ

**Transliteration:** Wa inna jahannama lamaw'iduhum ajma'een

**Translation:** And indeed, Hell is the promised place for them all.

#### Verse 44

لَهَا سَبْعَةُ أَبْوَابٍ لِّكُلِّ بَابٍ مِّنْهُمْ جُزْءٌ مَّقْسُومٌ

**Transliteration:** Lahaa sab'atu abwaab; likulli baabim minhum juz'um maqsoom

**Translation:** It has seven gates; for every gate is of them a portion designated."

#### Verse 45

إِنَّ الْمُتَّقِينَ فِي جَنَّاتٍ وَعُيُونٍ

**Transliteration:** Innal muttaqeena fee Jannaatinw wa 'uyoon

**Translation:** Indeed, the righteous will be within gardens and springs.

#### Verse 46

ادْخُلُوهَا بِسَلَامٍ آمِنِينَ

**Transliteration:** Udkhuloohaa bisalaamin aamineen

**Translation:** [Having been told], "Enter it in peace, safe [and secure]."

#### Verse 47

وَنَزَعْنَا مَا فِي صُدُورِهِم مِّنْ غِلٍّ إِخْوَانًا عَلَىٰ سُرُرٍ مُّتَقَابِلِينَ

**Transliteration:** Wa naza'naa ma fee sudoorihim min ghillin ikhwaanan 'alaa sururim mutaqaabileen

**Translation:** And We will remove whatever is in their breasts of resentment, [so they will be] brothers, on thrones facing each other.

#### Verse 48

لَا يَمَسُّهُمْ فِيهَا نَصَبٌ وَمَا هُم مِّنْهَا بِمُخْرَجِينَ

**Transliteration:** Laa yamas suhum feehaa nasabunw wa maa hum minhaa bimukhrajeen

**Translation:** No fatigue will touch them therein, nor from it will they [ever] be removed.

#### Verse 49

۞ نَبِّئْ عِبَادِي أَنِّي أَنَا الْغَفُورُ الرَّحِيمُ

**Transliteration:** Nabbi' 'ibaadeee annneee anal Ghafoorur Raheem

**Translation:** [O Muhammad], inform My servants that it is I who am the Forgiving, the Merciful.

#### Verse 50

وَأَنَّ عَذَابِي هُوَ الْعَذَابُ الْأَلِيمُ

**Transliteration:** Wa anna 'azaabee uwal 'azaabul aleem

**Translation:** And that it is My punishment which is the painful punishment.

#### Verse 51

وَنَبِّئْهُمْ عَن ضَيْفِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ

**Transliteration:** Wa nabbi'hum 'an daifi Ibraaheem

**Translation:** And inform them about the guests of Abraham,

#### Verse 52

إِذْ دَخَلُوا عَلَيْهِ فَقَالُوا سَلَامًا قَالَ إِنَّا مِنكُمْ وَجِلُونَ

**Transliteration:** Iz dakhaloo 'alaihi faqaaloo salaaman qaala innaa minkum wajiloon

**Translation:** When they entered upon him and said, "Peace." [Abraham] said, "Indeed, we are fearful of you."

#### Verse 53

قَالُوا لَا تَوْجَلْ إِنَّا نُبَشِّرُكَ بِغُلَامٍ عَلِيمٍ

**Transliteration:** Qaaloo la tawjal innaa nubashshiruka bighulaamin 'aleem

**Translation:** [The angels] said, "Fear not. Indeed, we give you good tidings of a learned boy."

#### Verse 54

قَالَ أَبَشَّرْتُمُونِي عَلَىٰ أَن مَّسَّنِيَ الْكِبَرُ فَبِمَ تُبَشِّرُونَ

**Transliteration:** Qaala abashshartumoonee 'alaaa am massaniyal kibaru fabima tubashshiroon

**Translation:** He said, "Have you given me good tidings although old age has come upon me? Then of what [wonder] do you inform?"

#### Verse 55

قَالُوا بَشَّرْنَاكَ بِالْحَقِّ فَلَا تَكُن مِّنَ الْقَانِطِينَ

**Transliteration:** Qaaloo bashsharnaaka bilhaqqi falaa takum minal qaaniteen

**Translation:** They said, "We have given you good tidings in truth, so do not be of the despairing."

#### Verse 56

قَالَ وَمَن يَقْنَطُ مِن رَّحْمَةِ رَبِّهِ إِلَّا الضَّالُّونَ

**Transliteration:** Qaala wa mai yaqnatu mir rahmati Rabbiheee illad daaaloon

**Translation:** He said, "And who despairs of the mercy of his Lord except for those astray?"

#### Verse 57

قَالَ فَمَا خَطْبُكُمْ أَيُّهَا الْمُرْسَلُونَ

**Transliteration:** Qaala famaa khatbukum aiyuhal mursaloon

**Translation:** [Abraham] said, "Then what is your business [here], O messengers?"

#### Verse 58

قَالُوا إِنَّا أُرْسِلْنَا إِلَىٰ قَوْمٍ مُّجْرِمِينَ

**Transliteration:** Qaaloo innaaa ursilnaaa ilaa qawmim mujrimeen

**Translation:** They said, "Indeed, we have been sent to a people of criminals,

#### Verse 59

إِلَّا آلَ لُوطٍ إِنَّا لَمُنَجُّوهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ

**Transliteration:** Illaaa Aala Loot; innaa lamunajjoohum ajma'een

**Translation:** Except the family of Lot; indeed, we will save them all

#### Verse 60

إِلَّا امْرَأَتَهُ قَدَّرْنَا ۙ إِنَّهَا لَمِنَ الْغَابِرِينَ

**Transliteration:** Illam ra atahoo qaddarnaaa innahaa laminal ghaabireen

**Translation:** Except his wife." Allah decreed that she is of those who remain behind.

#### Verse 61

فَلَمَّا جَاءَ آلَ لُوطٍ الْمُرْسَلُونَ

**Transliteration:** Falamma jaaa'a Aala Lootinil mursaloon

**Translation:** And when the messengers came to the family of Lot,

#### Verse 62

قَالَ إِنَّكُمْ قَوْمٌ مُّنكَرُونَ

**Transliteration:** Qaala innakum qawmum munkaroon

**Translation:** He said, "Indeed, you are people unknown."

#### Verse 63

قَالُوا بَلْ جِئْنَاكَ بِمَا كَانُوا فِيهِ يَمْتَرُونَ

**Transliteration:** Qaaloo bal ji'naaka bimaa kaanoo feehi yamtaroon

**Translation:** They said, "But we have come to you with that about which they were disputing,

#### Verse 64

وَأَتَيْنَاكَ بِالْحَقِّ وَإِنَّا لَصَادِقُونَ

**Transliteration:** Wa atainaaka bilhaqqi wa innaa lasaadiqoon

**Translation:** And we have come to you with truth, and indeed, we are truthful.

#### Verse 65

فَأَسْرِ بِأَهْلِكَ بِقِطْعٍ مِّنَ اللَّيْلِ وَاتَّبِعْ أَدْبَارَهُمْ وَلَا يَلْتَفِتْ مِنكُمْ أَحَدٌ وَامْضُوا حَيْثُ تُؤْمَرُونَ

**Transliteration:** Fa asri bi ahlika biqit'im minal laili wattabi' adbaarahum wa laa yaltafit minkum ahadunw wamdoo haisu tu'maroon

**Translation:** So set out with your family during a portion of the night and follow behind them and let not anyone among you look back and continue on to where you are commanded."

#### Verse 66

وَقَضَيْنَا إِلَيْهِ ذَٰلِكَ الْأَمْرَ أَنَّ دَابِرَ هَٰؤُلَاءِ مَقْطُوعٌ مُّصْبِحِينَ

**Transliteration:** Wa qadainaaa ilaihi zaalikal amra anna daabira haaa'ulaaa'i maqtoo'um musbiheen

**Translation:** And We conveyed to him [the decree] of that matter: that those [sinners] would be eliminated by early morning.

#### Verse 67

وَجَاءَ أَهْلُ الْمَدِينَةِ يَسْتَبْشِرُونَ

**Transliteration:** Wa jaaa'a ahlul madeenati yastabshiroon

**Translation:** And the people of the city came rejoicing.

#### Verse 68

قَالَ إِنَّ هَٰؤُلَاءِ ضَيْفِي فَلَا تَفْضَحُونِ

**Transliteration:** Qaala inna haaa'ulaaa'i daifee falaa tafdahoon

**Translation:** [Lot] said, "Indeed, these are my guests, so do not shame me.

#### Verse 69

وَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ وَلَا تُخْزُونِ

**Transliteration:** Wattaqul laaha wa laa tukhzoon

**Translation:** And fear Allah and do not disgrace me."

#### Verse 70

قَالُوا أَوَلَمْ نَنْهَكَ عَنِ الْعَالَمِينَ

**Transliteration:** Qaalooo awalam nanhaka 'anil 'aalameen

**Translation:** They said, "Have we not forbidden you from [protecting] people?"

#### Verse 71

قَالَ هَٰؤُلَاءِ بَنَاتِي إِن كُنتُمْ فَاعِلِينَ

**Transliteration:** Qaala haaa'ulaaa'i banaateee in kuntum faa'ileen

**Translation:** [Lot] said, "These are my daughters - if you would be doers [of lawful marriage]."

#### Verse 72

لَعَمْرُكَ إِنَّهُمْ لَفِي سَكْرَتِهِمْ يَعْمَهُونَ

**Transliteration:** La'amruka innahum lafee sakratihim ya'mahoon

**Translation:** By your life, [O Muhammad], indeed they were, in their intoxication, wandering blindly.

#### Verse 73

فَأَخَذَتْهُمُ الصَّيْحَةُ مُشْرِقِينَ

**Transliteration:** Fa akhazat humus saihatu mushriqeen

**Translation:** So the shriek seized them at sunrise.

#### Verse 74

فَجَعَلْنَا عَالِيَهَا سَافِلَهَا وَأَمْطَرْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ حِجَارَةً مِّن سِجِّيلٍ

**Transliteration:** Faja'alnaa 'aaliyahaa saafilahaa wa amtamaa 'alaihim hijaaratam min sjijjeel

**Translation:** And We made the highest part [of the city] its lowest and rained upon them stones of hard clay.

#### Verse 75

إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَآيَاتٍ لِّلْمُتَوَسِّمِينَ

**Transliteration:** Inna fee zaalika la Aayaatil lilmutawassimeen

**Translation:** Indeed in that are signs for those who discern.

#### Verse 76

وَإِنَّهَا لَبِسَبِيلٍ مُّقِيمٍ

**Transliteration:** Wa innahaa labi sabeelim muqeem

**Translation:** And indeed, those cities are [situated] on an established road.

#### Verse 77

إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَآيَةً لِّلْمُؤْمِنِينَ

**Transliteration:** Inna fee zaalika la Aayatal lilmu'mineen

**Translation:** Indeed in that is a sign for the believers.

#### Verse 78

وَإِن كَانَ أَصْحَابُ الْأَيْكَةِ لَظَالِمِينَ

**Transliteration:** Wa in kaana Ashaabul Aikati lazaalimeen

**Translation:** And the companions of the thicket were [also] wrongdoers.

#### Verse 79

فَانتَقَمْنَا مِنْهُمْ وَإِنَّهُمَا لَبِإِمَامٍ مُّبِينٍ

**Transliteration:** Fantaqamnaa minhum wa innahumaa labi imaamim mubeen

**Translation:** So We took retribution from them, and indeed, both [cities] are on a clear highway.

#### Verse 80

وَلَقَدْ كَذَّبَ أَصْحَابُ الْحِجْرِ الْمُرْسَلِينَ

**Transliteration:** Wa laqad kazzaba ashaabul Hijril mursaleen

**Translation:** And certainly did the companions of Thamud deny the messengers.

#### Verse 81

وَآتَيْنَاهُمْ آيَاتِنَا فَكَانُوا عَنْهَا مُعْرِضِينَ

**Transliteration:** Wa aatainaahum Aayaatinaa fakaanoo 'anhaa mu'rideen

**Translation:** And We gave them Our signs, but from them they were turning away.

#### Verse 82

وَكَانُوا يَنْحِتُونَ مِنَ الْجِبَالِ بُيُوتًا آمِنِينَ

**Transliteration:** Wa kaanoo yanhitoona minal jibaali buyootan aamineen

**Translation:** And they used to carve from the mountains, houses, feeling secure.

#### Verse 83

فَأَخَذَتْهُمُ الصَّيْحَةُ مُصْبِحِينَ

**Transliteration:** Fa akhazat humus saihatu musbiheen

**Translation:** But the shriek seized them at early morning.

#### Verse 84

فَمَا أَغْنَىٰ عَنْهُم مَّا كَانُوا يَكْسِبُونَ

**Transliteration:** Famaaa aghnaa 'anhum maa kaanoo yaksiboon

**Translation:** So nothing availed them [from] what they used to earn.

#### Verse 85

وَمَا خَلَقْنَا السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضَ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا إِلَّا بِالْحَقِّ ۗ وَإِنَّ السَّاعَةَ لَآتِيَةٌ ۖ فَاصْفَحِ الصَّفْحَ الْجَمِيلَ

**Transliteration:** Wa maa khalaqnas samaawaati wal arda wa maa bainahumaaa illaa bilhaqq; wa innas Saa'ata la aatiyatun fasfahis safhal jameel

**Translation:** And We have not created the heavens and earth and that between them except in truth. And indeed, the Hour is coming; so forgive with gracious forgiveness.

#### Verse 86

إِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ الْخَلَّاقُ الْعَلِيمُ

**Transliteration:** Inna Rabbaka Huwal khallaaqul 'aleem

**Translation:** Indeed, your Lord - He is the Knowing Creator.

#### Verse 87

وَلَقَدْ آتَيْنَاكَ سَبْعًا مِّنَ الْمَثَانِي وَالْقُرْآنَ الْعَظِيمَ

**Transliteration:** Wa laqad aatainaaka sab'am mnal masaanee wal Qur-aanal 'azeem

**Translation:** And We have certainly given you, [O Muhammad], seven of the often repeated [verses] and the great Qur'an.

#### Verse 88

لَا تَمُدَّنَّ عَيْنَيْكَ إِلَىٰ مَا مَتَّعْنَا بِهِ أَزْوَاجًا مِّنْهُمْ وَلَا تَحْزَنْ عَلَيْهِمْ وَاخْفِضْ جَنَاحَكَ لِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ

**Transliteration:** Laa tamuddanna 'ainaika ilaa maa matta 'naa biheee azwaajam minhum wa laa tahzan 'alaihim wakhfid janaahaka lilmu 'mineen

**Translation:** Do not extend your eyes toward that by which We have given enjoyment to [certain] categories of the disbelievers, and do not grieve over them. And lower your wing to the believers

#### Verse 89

وَقُلْ إِنِّي أَنَا النَّذِيرُ الْمُبِينُ

**Transliteration:** Wa qul inneee anan nazeerul mubeen

**Translation:** And say, "Indeed, I am the clear warner" -

#### Verse 90

كَمَا أَنزَلْنَا عَلَى الْمُقْتَسِمِينَ

**Transliteration:** Kamaaa anzalnaa 'alal muqtasimeen

**Translation:** Just as We had revealed [scriptures] to the separators

#### Verse 91

الَّذِينَ جَعَلُوا الْقُرْآنَ عِضِينَ

**Transliteration:** Allazeena ja'alul Quraana'ideen

**Translation:** Who have made the Qur'an into portions.

#### Verse 92

فَوَرَبِّكَ لَنَسْأَلَنَّهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ

**Transliteration:** Fawa Rabbika lanas'a lannahum ajma'een

**Translation:** So by your Lord, We will surely question them all

#### Verse 93

عَمَّا كَانُوا يَعْمَلُونَ

**Transliteration:** 'Ammaa kaanoo ya'maloon

**Translation:** About what they used to do.

#### Verse 94

فَاصْدَعْ بِمَا تُؤْمَرُ وَأَعْرِضْ عَنِ الْمُشْرِكِينَ

**Transliteration:** Fasda' bimaa tu'maru wa a'rid anil mushrikeen

**Translation:** Then declare what you are commanded and turn away from the polytheists.

#### Verse 95

إِنَّا كَفَيْنَاكَ الْمُسْتَهْزِئِينَ

**Transliteration:** Innaa kafainaakal mustahzi'een

**Translation:** Indeed, We are sufficient for you against the mockers

#### Verse 96

الَّذِينَ يَجْعَلُونَ مَعَ اللَّهِ إِلَٰهًا آخَرَ ۚ فَسَوْفَ يَعْلَمُونَ

**Transliteration:** Allazeena yaj'aloona ma'al laahi ilaahan aakhar; fasawfa ya'lamoon

**Translation:** Who make [equal] with Allah another deity. But they are going to know.

#### Verse 97

وَلَقَدْ نَعْلَمُ أَنَّكَ يَضِيقُ صَدْرُكَ بِمَا يَقُولُونَ

**Transliteration:** Wa laqad na'lamu annak yadeequ sadruka bimaa yaqooloon

**Translation:** And We already know that your breast is constrained by what they say.

#### Verse 98

فَسَبِّحْ بِحَمْدِ رَبِّكَ وَكُن مِّنَ السَّاجِدِينَ

**Transliteration:** Fasbbih bihamdi Rabbika wa kum minas saajideen

**Translation:** So exalt [Allah] with praise of your Lord and be of those who prostrate [to Him].

#### Verse 99

وَاعْبُدْ رَبَّكَ حَتَّىٰ يَأْتِيَكَ الْيَقِينُ

**Transliteration:** Wa'bud Rabbaka hattaa yaatiyakal yaqeen

**Translation:** And worship your Lord until there comes to you the certainty (death).
