**Translation:** The Winnowing Winds

### Pre-Bismillah

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

*In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.*

### Verses

#### Verse 1

وَالذَّارِيَاتِ ذَرْوًا

**Transliteration:** Waz-zaariyaati zarwaa

**Translation:** By those [winds] scattering [dust] dispersing

#### Verse 2

فَالْحَامِلَاتِ وِقْرًا

**Transliteration:** Falhaamilaati wiqraa

**Translation:** And those [clouds] carrying a load [of water]

#### Verse 3

فَالْجَارِيَاتِ يُسْرًا

**Transliteration:** Faljaariyaati yusraa

**Translation:** And those [ships] sailing with ease

#### Verse 4

فَالْمُقَسِّمَاتِ أَمْرًا

**Transliteration:** Falmuqassimaati amraa

**Translation:** And those [angels] apportioning [each] matter,

#### Verse 5

إِنَّمَا تُوعَدُونَ لَصَادِقٌ

**Transliteration:** Innamaa too'adoona la-saadiq

**Translation:** Indeed, what you are promised is true.

#### Verse 6

وَإِنَّ الدِّينَ لَوَاقِعٌ

**Transliteration:** Wa innad deena la waaqi'

**Translation:** And indeed, the recompense is to occur.

#### Verse 7

وَالسَّمَاءِ ذَاتِ الْحُبُكِ

**Transliteration:** Wassamaaa'i zaatil hubuk

**Translation:** By the heaven containing pathways,

#### Verse 8

إِنَّكُمْ لَفِي قَوْلٍ مُّخْتَلِفٍ

**Transliteration:** Innakum lafee qawlim mukhtalif

**Translation:** Indeed, you are in differing speech.

#### Verse 9

يُؤْفَكُ عَنْهُ مَنْ أُفِكَ

**Transliteration:** Yu'faku 'anhu man ufik

**Translation:** Deluded away from the Qur'an is he who is deluded.

#### Verse 10

قُتِلَ الْخَرَّاصُونَ

**Transliteration:** Qutilal kharraasoon

**Translation:** Destroyed are the falsifiers

#### Verse 11

الَّذِينَ هُمْ فِي غَمْرَةٍ سَاهُونَ

**Transliteration:** Allazeena hum fee ghamratin saahoon

**Translation:** Who are within a flood [of confusion] and heedless.

#### Verse 12

يَسْأَلُونَ أَيَّانَ يَوْمُ الدِّينِ

**Transliteration:** Yas'aloona ayyaana yawmud Deen

**Translation:** They ask, "When is the Day of Recompense?"

#### Verse 13

يَوْمَ هُمْ عَلَى النَّارِ يُفْتَنُونَ

**Transliteration:** Yawma hum 'alan naari yuftanoon

**Translation:** [It is] the Day they will be tormented over the Fire

#### Verse 14

ذُوقُوا فِتْنَتَكُمْ هَٰذَا الَّذِي كُنتُم بِهِ تَسْتَعْجِلُونَ

**Transliteration:** Zooqoo fitnatakum haa zal lazee kuntum bihee tas ta'jiloon

**Translation:** [And will be told], "Taste your torment. This is that for which you were impatient."

#### Verse 15

إِنَّ الْمُتَّقِينَ فِي جَنَّاتٍ وَعُيُونٍ

**Transliteration:** Innal muttaqeena fee jannaatinw wa 'uyoon

**Translation:** Indeed, the righteous will be among gardens and springs,

#### Verse 16

آخِذِينَ مَا آتَاهُمْ رَبُّهُمْ ۚ إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا قَبْلَ ذَٰلِكَ مُحْسِنِينَ

**Transliteration:** Aakhizeena maaa aataahum Rabbuhum; innahum kaanoo qabla zaalika muhsineen

**Translation:** Accepting what their Lord has given them. Indeed, they were before that doers of good.

#### Verse 17

كَانُوا قَلِيلًا مِّنَ اللَّيْلِ مَا يَهْجَعُونَ

**Transliteration:** kaanoo qaleelam minal laili maa yahja'oon

**Translation:** They used to sleep but little of the night,

#### Verse 18

وَبِالْأَسْحَارِ هُمْ يَسْتَغْفِرُونَ

**Transliteration:** Wa bilashaari hum yastaghfiroon

**Translation:** And in the hours before dawn they would ask forgiveness,

#### Verse 19

وَفِي أَمْوَالِهِمْ حَقٌّ لِّلسَّائِلِ وَالْمَحْرُومِ

**Transliteration:** Wa feee amwaalihim haqqul lissaaa'ili walmahroom

**Translation:** And from their properties was [given] the right of the [needy] petitioner and the deprived.

#### Verse 20

وَفِي الْأَرْضِ آيَاتٌ لِّلْمُوقِنِينَ

**Transliteration:** Wa fil ardi aayaatul lilmooqineen

**Translation:** And on the earth are signs for the certain [in faith]

#### Verse 21

وَفِي أَنفُسِكُمْ ۚ أَفَلَا تُبْصِرُونَ

**Transliteration:** Wa feee anfusikum; afalaa tubsiroon

**Translation:** And in yourselves. Then will you not see?

#### Verse 22

وَفِي السَّمَاءِ رِزْقُكُمْ وَمَا تُوعَدُونَ

**Transliteration:** Wa fissamaaa'i rizqukum wa maa too'adoon

**Translation:** And in the heaven is your provision and whatever you are promised.

#### Verse 23

فَوَرَبِّ السَّمَاءِ وَالْأَرْضِ إِنَّهُ لَحَقٌّ مِّثْلَ مَا أَنَّكُمْ تَنطِقُونَ

**Transliteration:** Fawa Rabbis samaaa'i wal ardi innahoo lahaqqum misla maa annakum tantiqoon

**Translation:** Then by the Lord of the heaven and earth, indeed, it is truth - just as [sure as] it is that you are speaking.

#### Verse 24

هَلْ أَتَاكَ حَدِيثُ ضَيْفِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الْمُكْرَمِينَ

**Transliteration:** Hal ataaka hadeesu daifi Ibraaheemal mukrameen

**Translation:** Has there reached you the story of the honored guests of Abraham? -

#### Verse 25

إِذْ دَخَلُوا عَلَيْهِ فَقَالُوا سَلَامًا ۖ قَالَ سَلَامٌ قَوْمٌ مُّنكَرُونَ

**Transliteration:** Iz dakhaloo 'alaihi faqaaloo salaaman qaala salaamun qawmum munkaroon

**Translation:** When they entered upon him and said, "[We greet you with] peace." He answered, "[And upon you] peace, [you are] a people unknown.

#### Verse 26

فَرَاغَ إِلَىٰ أَهْلِهِ فَجَاءَ بِعِجْلٍ سَمِينٍ

**Transliteration:** Faraagha ilaaa ahlihee fajaaa'a bi'ijlin sameen

**Translation:** Then he went to his family and came with a fat [roasted] calf

#### Verse 27

فَقَرَّبَهُ إِلَيْهِمْ قَالَ أَلَا تَأْكُلُونَ

**Transliteration:** Faqarrabahooo ilaihim qaala alaa taakuloon

**Translation:** And placed it near them; he said, "Will you not eat?"

#### Verse 28

فَأَوْجَسَ مِنْهُمْ خِيفَةً ۖ قَالُوا لَا تَخَفْ ۖ وَبَشَّرُوهُ بِغُلَامٍ عَلِيمٍ

**Transliteration:** Fa awjasa minhm khee fatan qaaloo laa takhaf wa bashsharoohu bighulaamin 'aleem

**Translation:** And he felt from them apprehension. They said, "Fear not," and gave him good tidings of a learned boy.

#### Verse 29

فَأَقْبَلَتِ امْرَأَتُهُ فِي صَرَّةٍ فَصَكَّتْ وَجْهَهَا وَقَالَتْ عَجُوزٌ عَقِيمٌ

**Transliteration:** Fa aqbalatim ra-atuhoo fee sarratin fasakkat wajhahaa wa qaalat 'ajoozun 'aqeem

**Translation:** And his wife approached with a cry [of alarm] and struck her face and said, "[I am] a barren old woman!"

#### Verse 30

قَالُوا كَذَٰلِكِ قَالَ رَبُّكِ ۖ إِنَّهُ هُوَ الْحَكِيمُ الْعَلِيمُ

**Transliteration:** Qaaloo kazaaliki qaala Rabbuki innahoo huwal hakeemul 'aleem

**Translation:** They said, "Thus has said your Lord; indeed, He is the Wise, the Knowing."

#### Verse 31

۞ قَالَ فَمَا خَطْبُكُمْ أَيُّهَا الْمُرْسَلُونَ

**Transliteration:** Qaala famaa khatbukum ayyuhal mursaloon

**Translation:** [Abraham] said, "Then what is your business [here], O messengers?"

#### Verse 32

قَالُوا إِنَّا أُرْسِلْنَا إِلَىٰ قَوْمٍ مُّجْرِمِينَ

**Transliteration:** Qaalooo innaaa ursilnaaa ilaa qawmim mujrimeen

**Translation:** They said, "Indeed, we have been sent to a people of criminals

#### Verse 33

لِنُرْسِلَ عَلَيْهِمْ حِجَارَةً مِّن طِينٍ

**Transliteration:** Linursila 'alaihim hijaa ratam min teen

**Translation:** To send down upon them stones of clay,

#### Verse 34

مُّسَوَّمَةً عِندَ رَبِّكَ لِلْمُسْرِفِينَ

**Transliteration:** Musawwamatan 'inda rabbika lilmusrifeen

**Translation:** Marked in the presence of your Lord for the transgressors."

#### Verse 35

فَأَخْرَجْنَا مَن كَانَ فِيهَا مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ

**Transliteration:** Fa akhrajnaa man kaana feehaa minal mu'mineen

**Translation:** So We brought out whoever was in the cities of the believers.

#### Verse 36

فَمَا وَجَدْنَا فِيهَا غَيْرَ بَيْتٍ مِّنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ

**Transliteration:** Famaa wajadnaa feehaa ghaira baitim minal muslimeen

**Translation:** And We found not within them other than a [single] house of Muslims.

#### Verse 37

وَتَرَكْنَا فِيهَا آيَةً لِّلَّذِينَ يَخَافُونَ الْعَذَابَ الْأَلِيمَ

**Transliteration:** Wa taraknaa feehaaa aayatal lillazeena yakhaafoonal 'azaabal aleem

**Translation:** And We left therein a sign for those who fear the painful punishment.

#### Verse 38

وَفِي مُوسَىٰ إِذْ أَرْسَلْنَاهُ إِلَىٰ فِرْعَوْنَ بِسُلْطَانٍ مُّبِينٍ

**Transliteration:** Wa fee Moosaaa iz arsalnaahu ilaa Fir'wna bisultaa nim mubeen

**Translation:** And in Moses [was a sign], when We sent him to Pharaoh with clear authority.

#### Verse 39

فَتَوَلَّىٰ بِرُكْنِهِ وَقَالَ سَاحِرٌ أَوْ مَجْنُونٌ

**Transliteration:** Fatawalla biruknihee wa qaala saahirun aw majnoon

**Translation:** But he turned away with his supporters and said," A magician or a madman."

#### Verse 40

فَأَخَذْنَاهُ وَجُنُودَهُ فَنَبَذْنَاهُمْ فِي الْيَمِّ وَهُوَ مُلِيمٌ

**Transliteration:** Fa akhaznaahu wa junoo dahoo fanabaznaahum fil yammi wa huwa muleem

**Translation:** So We took him and his soldiers and cast them into the sea, and he was blameworthy.

#### Verse 41

وَفِي عَادٍ إِذْ أَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمُ الرِّيحَ الْعَقِيمَ

**Transliteration:** Wa fee 'Aadin iz arsalnaa 'alaihimur reehal'aqeem

**Translation:** And in 'Aad [was a sign], when We sent against them the barren wind.

#### Verse 42

مَا تَذَرُ مِن شَيْءٍ أَتَتْ عَلَيْهِ إِلَّا جَعَلَتْهُ كَالرَّمِيمِ

**Transliteration:** Maa tazaru min shai'in atat 'alaihi illaa ja'alat hu karrameem

**Translation:** It left nothing of what it came upon but that it made it like disintegrated ruins.

#### Verse 43

وَفِي ثَمُودَ إِذْ قِيلَ لَهُمْ تَمَتَّعُوا حَتَّىٰ حِينٍ

**Transliteration:** Wa fee Samooda iz qeela lahum tamatta''oo hattaa heen

**Translation:** And in Thamud, when it was said to them, "Enjoy yourselves for a time."

#### Verse 44

فَعَتَوْا عَنْ أَمْرِ رَبِّهِمْ فَأَخَذَتْهُمُ الصَّاعِقَةُ وَهُمْ يَنظُرُونَ

**Transliteration:** Fa'ataw 'an amri Rabbihim fa akhazal humus saa'iqatu wa hum yanzuroon

**Translation:** But they were insolent toward the command of their Lord, so the thunderbolt seized them while they were looking on.

#### Verse 45

فَمَا اسْتَطَاعُوا مِن قِيَامٍ وَمَا كَانُوا مُنتَصِرِينَ

**Transliteration:** Famas tataa'oo min qiyaaminw wa maa kaanoo muntasireen

**Translation:** And they were unable to arise, nor could they defend themselves.

#### Verse 46

وَقَوْمَ نُوحٍ مِّن قَبْلُ ۖ إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا قَوْمًا فَاسِقِينَ

**Transliteration:** Wa qawma Noohim min qablu innahum kaano qawman faasiqeen

**Translation:** And [We destroyed] the people of Noah before; indeed, they were a people defiantly disobedient.

#### Verse 47

وَالسَّمَاءَ بَنَيْنَاهَا بِأَيْدٍ وَإِنَّا لَمُوسِعُونَ

**Transliteration:** Wassamaaa'a banainaa haa bi aydinw wa innaa lamoosi'oon

**Translation:** And the heaven We constructed with strength, and indeed, We are [its] expander.

#### Verse 48

وَالْأَرْضَ فَرَشْنَاهَا فَنِعْمَ الْمَاهِدُونَ

**Transliteration:** Wal arda farashnaahaa fani'mal maahidoon

**Translation:** And the earth We have spread out, and excellent is the preparer.

#### Verse 49

وَمِن كُلِّ شَيْءٍ خَلَقْنَا زَوْجَيْنِ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَذَكَّرُونَ

**Transliteration:** Wa min kulli shai'in khalaqnaa zawjaini la'allakum tazakkaroon

**Translation:** And of all things We created two mates; perhaps you will remember.

#### Verse 50

فَفِرُّوا إِلَى اللَّهِ ۖ إِنِّي لَكُم مِّنْهُ نَذِيرٌ مُّبِينٌ

**Transliteration:** Fafirrooo ilal laahi innee lakum minhu nazeerum mubeen

**Translation:** So flee to Allah. Indeed, I am to you from Him a clear warner.

#### Verse 51

وَلَا تَجْعَلُوا مَعَ اللَّهِ إِلَٰهًا آخَرَ ۖ إِنِّي لَكُم مِّنْهُ نَذِيرٌ مُّبِينٌ

**Transliteration:** Wa laa taj'aloo ma'al laahi ilaahan aakhara innee lakum minhu nazeerum mubeen

**Translation:** And do not make [as equal] with Allah another deity. Indeed, I am to you from Him a clear warner.

#### Verse 52

كَذَٰلِكَ مَا أَتَى الَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِهِم مِّن رَّسُولٍ إِلَّا قَالُوا سَاحِرٌ أَوْ مَجْنُونٌ

**Transliteration:** Kazaalika maaa atal lazeena min qablihim mir Rasoolin illaa qaaloo saahirun aw majnoon

**Translation:** Similarly, there came not to those before them any messenger except that they said, "A magician or a madman."

#### Verse 53

أَتَوَاصَوْا بِهِ ۚ بَلْ هُمْ قَوْمٌ طَاغُونَ

**Transliteration:** Atawaasaw bih; bal hum qawmun taaghoon

**Translation:** Did they suggest it to them? Rather, they [themselves] are a transgressing people.

#### Verse 54

فَتَوَلَّ عَنْهُمْ فَمَا أَنتَ بِمَلُومٍ

**Transliteration:** Fatawalla 'anhum famaaa anta bimaloom

**Translation:** So leave them, [O Muhammad], for you are not to be blamed.

#### Verse 55

وَذَكِّرْ فَإِنَّ الذِّكْرَىٰ تَنفَعُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ

**Transliteration:** Wa zakkir fa innaz zikraa tanfa'ul mu'mineen

**Translation:** And remind, for indeed, the reminder benefits the believers.

#### Verse 56

وَمَا خَلَقْتُ الْجِنَّ وَالْإِنسَ إِلَّا لِيَعْبُدُونِ

**Transliteration:** Wa maa khalaqtul jinna wal insa illaa liya'budoon

**Translation:** And I did not create the jinn and mankind except to worship Me.

#### Verse 57

مَا أُرِيدُ مِنْهُم مِّن رِّزْقٍ وَمَا أُرِيدُ أَن يُطْعِمُونِ

**Transliteration:** Maaa ureedu minhum mir rizqinw wa maaa ureedu anyyut'imoon

**Translation:** I do not want from them any provision, nor do I want them to feed Me.

#### Verse 58

إِنَّ اللَّهَ هُوَ الرَّزَّاقُ ذُو الْقُوَّةِ الْمَتِينُ

**Transliteration:** Innal laaha Huwar Razzaaqu Zul Quwwatil Mateen

**Translation:** Indeed, it is Allah who is the [continual] Provider, the firm possessor of strength.

#### Verse 59

فَإِنَّ لِلَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا ذَنُوبًا مِّثْلَ ذَنُوبِ أَصْحَابِهِمْ فَلَا يَسْتَعْجِلُونِ

**Transliteration:** Fa inna lillazeena zalamoo zanoobam misla zanoobi ashaabihim falaa yasta'jiloon

**Translation:** And indeed, for those who have wronged is a portion [of punishment] like the portion of their predecessors, so let them not impatiently urge Me.

#### Verse 60

فَوَيْلٌ لِّلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا مِن يَوْمِهِمُ الَّذِي يُوعَدُونَ

**Transliteration:** Fawailul lillazeena kafaroo miny yawmihimul lazee yoo'adoon

**Translation:** And woe to those who have disbelieved from their Day which they are promised.
