## Al-Qamar

**Translation:** The Moon
**Revelation:** Meccan
**Number of Verses:** 55

### Pre-Bismillah

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

*In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.*

### Verses

#### Verse 1

اقْتَرَبَتِ السَّاعَةُ وَانشَقَّ الْقَمَرُ

**Transliteration:** Iqtarabatis Saa'atu wsan shaqqal qamar

**Translation:** The Hour has come near, and the moon has split [in two].

#### Verse 2

وَإِن يَرَوْا آيَةً يُعْرِضُوا وَيَقُولُوا سِحْرٌ مُّسْتَمِرٌّ

**Transliteration:** Wa iny yaraw aayatany yu'ridoo wa yaqooloo sihrum mustamirr

**Translation:** And if they see a miracle, they turn away and say, "Passing magic."

#### Verse 3

وَكَذَّبُوا وَاتَّبَعُوا أَهْوَاءَهُمْ ۚ وَكُلُّ أَمْرٍ مُّسْتَقِرٌّ

**Transliteration:** Wa kazzaboo wattaba'ooo ahwaaa'ahum; wa kullu amrim mustaqirr

**Translation:** And they denied and followed their inclinations. But for every matter is a [time of] settlement.

#### Verse 4

وَلَقَدْ جَاءَهُم مِّنَ الْأَنبَاءِ مَا فِيهِ مُزْدَجَرٌ

**Transliteration:** Wa laqad jaaa'ahum minal ambaaa'i maa feehi muzdajar

**Translation:** And there has already come to them of information that in which there is deterrence -

#### Verse 5

حِكْمَةٌ بَالِغَةٌ ۖ فَمَا تُغْنِ النُّذُرُ

**Transliteration:** Hikmatum baalighatun famaa tughnin nuzur

**Translation:** Extensive wisdom - but warning does not avail [them].

#### Verse 6

فَتَوَلَّ عَنْهُمْ ۘ يَوْمَ يَدْعُ الدَّاعِ إِلَىٰ شَيْءٍ نُّكُرٍ

**Transliteration:** Fatawalla 'anhum; yawma yad'ud daa'i ilaa shai 'in nukur

**Translation:** So leave them, [O Muhammad]. The Day the Caller calls to something forbidding,

#### Verse 7

خُشَّعًا أَبْصَارُهُمْ يَخْرُجُونَ مِنَ الْأَجْدَاثِ كَأَنَّهُمْ جَرَادٌ مُّنتَشِرٌ

**Transliteration:** khushsha'an absaaruhum yakrujoona minal ajdaasi ka annahum jaraadum muntashir

**Translation:** Their eyes humbled, they will emerge from the graves as if they were locusts spreading,

#### Verse 8

مُّهْطِعِينَ إِلَى الدَّاعِ ۖ يَقُولُ الْكَافِرُونَ هَٰذَا يَوْمٌ عَسِرٌ

**Transliteration:** Muhti'eena ilad daa'i yaqoolul kafiroona haazaa yawmun 'asir

**Translation:** Racing ahead toward the Caller. The disbelievers will say, "This is a difficult Day."

#### Verse 9

۞ كَذَّبَتْ قَبْلَهُمْ قَوْمُ نُوحٍ فَكَذَّبُوا عَبْدَنَا وَقَالُوا مَجْنُونٌ وَازْدُجِرَ

**Transliteration:** Kazzabat qablahum qawmu Noohin fakazzaboo 'abdanaa wa qaaloo majnoo nunw wazdujir

**Translation:** The people of Noah denied before them, and they denied Our servant and said, "A madman," and he was repelled.

#### Verse 10

فَدَعَا رَبَّهُ أَنِّي مَغْلُوبٌ فَانتَصِرْ

**Transliteration:** Fada'aa Rabbahooo annee maghloobun fantasir

**Translation:** So he invoked his Lord, "Indeed, I am overpowered, so help."

#### Verse 11

فَفَتَحْنَا أَبْوَابَ السَّمَاءِ بِمَاءٍ مُّنْهَمِرٍ

**Transliteration:** Fafatahnaaa abwaabas sa maaa'i bimaa'im munhamir

**Translation:** Then We opened the gates of the heaven with rain pouring down

#### Verse 12

وَفَجَّرْنَا الْأَرْضَ عُيُونًا فَالْتَقَى الْمَاءُ عَلَىٰ أَمْرٍ قَدْ قُدِرَ

**Transliteration:** Wa fajjamal arda 'uyoonan faltaqal maaa'u 'alaaa amrin qad qudir

**Translation:** And caused the earth to burst with springs, and the waters met for a matter already predestined.

#### Verse 13

وَحَمَلْنَاهُ عَلَىٰ ذَاتِ أَلْوَاحٍ وَدُسُرٍ

**Transliteration:** Wa hamalnaahu 'alaa zaati alwaahinw wa dusur

**Translation:** And We carried him on a [construction of] planks and nails,

#### Verse 14

تَجْرِي بِأَعْيُنِنَا جَزَاءً لِّمَن كَانَ كُفِرَ

**Transliteration:** Tajree bi a'yuninaa jazaaa 'al liman kaana kufir

**Translation:** Sailing under Our observation as reward for he who had been denied.

#### Verse 15

وَلَقَد تَّرَكْنَاهَا آيَةً فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍ

**Transliteration:** Wa laqat taraknaahaad aayatan fahal mim muddakir

**Translation:** And We left it as a sign, so is there any who will remember?

#### Verse 16

فَكَيْفَ كَانَ عَذَابِي وَنُذُرِ

**Transliteration:** Fakaifa kaana 'azaabee wa nuzur

**Translation:** And how [severe] were My punishment and warning.

#### Verse 17

وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا الْقُرْآنَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍ

**Transliteration:** Wa laqad yassamal Quraana liz zikri fahal mimmuddakir

**Translation:** And We have certainly made the Qur'an easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember?

#### Verse 18

كَذَّبَتْ عَادٌ فَكَيْفَ كَانَ عَذَابِي وَنُذُرِ

**Transliteration:** Kazzabat 'Aadun fakaifa kaana 'azaabee wa nuzur

**Translation:** 'Aad denied; and how [severe] were My punishment and warning.

#### Verse 19

إِنَّا أَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ رِيحًا صَرْصَرًا فِي يَوْمِ نَحْسٍ مُّسْتَمِرٍّ

**Transliteration:** Innaa arsalnaa 'alaihim reehan sarsaran fee Yawmi nahsim mustamirr

**Translation:** Indeed, We sent upon them a screaming wind on a day of continuous misfortune,

#### Verse 20

تَنزِعُ النَّاسَ كَأَنَّهُمْ أَعْجَازُ نَخْلٍ مُّنقَعِرٍ

**Transliteration:** Tanzi;un naasa ka anna huma'jaazu nakhlim munqa'ir

**Translation:** Extracting the people as if they were trunks of palm trees uprooted.

#### Verse 21

فَكَيْفَ كَانَ عَذَابِي وَنُذُرِ

**Transliteration:** 'Fakaifa kaana 'azaabee wa nuzur

**Translation:** And how [severe] were My punishment and warning.

#### Verse 22

وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا الْقُرْآنَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍ

**Transliteration:** Wa laqad yassamal Quraana liz zikri fahal mim muddakir

**Translation:** And We have certainly made the Qur'an easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember?

#### Verse 23

كَذَّبَتْ ثَمُودُ بِالنُّذُرِ

**Transliteration:** Kazzabat Samoodu binnuzur

**Translation:** Thamud denied the warning

#### Verse 24

فَقَالُوا أَبَشَرًا مِّنَّا وَاحِدًا نَّتَّبِعُهُ إِنَّا إِذًا لَّفِي ضَلَالٍ وَسُعُرٍ

**Transliteration:** Faqaalooo a-basharam minnaa waahidan nattabi'uhooo innaa izal lafee dalaalinw wa su'ur

**Translation:** And said, "Is it one human being among us that we should follow? Indeed, we would then be in error and madness.

#### Verse 25

أَأُلْقِيَ الذِّكْرُ عَلَيْهِ مِن بَيْنِنَا بَلْ هُوَ كَذَّابٌ أَشِرٌ

**Transliteration:** 'A-ulqiyaz zikru 'alaihi mim baininaa bal huwa kazzaabun ashir

**Translation:** Has the message been sent down upon him from among us? Rather, he is an insolent liar."

#### Verse 26

سَيَعْلَمُونَ غَدًا مَّنِ الْكَذَّابُ الْأَشِرُ

**Transliteration:** Sa-ya'lamoona ghadam manil kazzaabul ashir

**Translation:** They will know tomorrow who is the insolent liar.

#### Verse 27

إِنَّا مُرْسِلُو النَّاقَةِ فِتْنَةً لَّهُمْ فَارْتَقِبْهُمْ وَاصْطَبِرْ

**Transliteration:** Innaa mursilun naaqati fitnatal lahum fartaqibhum wastabir

**Translation:** Indeed, We are sending the she-camel as trial for them, so watch them and be patient.

#### Verse 28

وَنَبِّئْهُمْ أَنَّ الْمَاءَ قِسْمَةٌ بَيْنَهُمْ ۖ كُلُّ شِرْبٍ مُّحْتَضَرٌ

**Transliteration:** Wa nabbi'hum annal maaa'a qismatum bainahum kullu shirbim muhtadar

**Translation:** And inform them that the water is shared between them, each [day of] drink attended [by turn].

#### Verse 29

فَنَادَوْا صَاحِبَهُمْ فَتَعَاطَىٰ فَعَقَرَ

**Transliteration:** Fanaadaw saahibahum fata'aataa fa'aqar

**Translation:** But they called their companion, and he dared and hamstrung [her].

#### Verse 30

فَكَيْفَ كَانَ عَذَابِي وَنُذُرِ

**Transliteration:** Fakaifa kaana 'azaabee wa nuzur

**Translation:** And how [severe] were My punishment and warning.

#### Verse 31

إِنَّا أَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ صَيْحَةً وَاحِدَةً فَكَانُوا كَهَشِيمِ الْمُحْتَظِرِ

**Transliteration:** Innaaa arsalnaa 'alaihim saihatanw waahidatan fakaano kahasheemil muhtazir

**Translation:** Indeed, We sent upon them one blast from the sky, and they became like the dry twig fragments of an [animal] pen.

#### Verse 32

وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا الْقُرْآنَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍ

**Transliteration:** Wa laqad yassarnal quraana liz zikri fahal mim muddakir

**Translation:** And We have certainly made the Qur'an easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember?

#### Verse 33

كَذَّبَتْ قَوْمُ لُوطٍ بِالنُّذُرِ

**Transliteration:** Kazzabat qawmu lootim binnuzur

**Translation:** The people of Lot denied the warning.

#### Verse 34

إِنَّا أَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ حَاصِبًا إِلَّا آلَ لُوطٍ ۖ نَّجَّيْنَاهُم بِسَحَرٍ

**Transliteration:** Innaa arsalnaa 'alaihim haasiban illaaa aala Loot najjainaahum bisahar

**Translation:** Indeed, We sent upon them a storm of stones, except the family of Lot - We saved them before dawn

#### Verse 35

نِّعْمَةً مِّنْ عِندِنَا ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِي مَن شَكَرَ

**Transliteration:** Ni'matam min 'indinaa; kazaalika najzee man shakar

**Translation:** As favor from us. Thus do We reward he who is grateful.

#### Verse 36

وَلَقَدْ أَنذَرَهُم بَطْشَتَنَا فَتَمَارَوْا بِالنُّذُرِ

**Transliteration:** Wa laqad anzarahum batshatanaa fatamaaraw binnuzur

**Translation:** And he had already warned them of Our assault, but they disputed the warning.

#### Verse 37

وَلَقَدْ رَاوَدُوهُ عَن ضَيْفِهِ فَطَمَسْنَا أَعْيُنَهُمْ فَذُوقُوا عَذَابِي وَنُذُرِ

**Transliteration:** Wa laqad raawadoohu 'andaifee fatamasnaaa a'yunahum fazooqoo 'azaabee wa nuzur

**Translation:** And they had demanded from him his guests, but We obliterated their eyes, [saying], "Taste My punishment and warning."

#### Verse 38

وَلَقَدْ صَبَّحَهُم بُكْرَةً عَذَابٌ مُّسْتَقِرٌّ

**Transliteration:** Wa laqad sabbahahum bukratan 'azaabum mustaqirr

**Translation:** And there came upon them by morning an abiding punishment.

#### Verse 39

فَذُوقُوا عَذَابِي وَنُذُرِ

**Transliteration:** Fazooqoo 'azaabee wa nuzur

**Translation:** So taste My punishment and warning.

#### Verse 40

وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا الْقُرْآنَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍ

**Transliteration:** Wa laqad yassarnal Quraana liz zikri fahal mim muddakir

**Translation:** And We have certainly made the Qur'an easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember?

#### Verse 41

وَلَقَدْ جَاءَ آلَ فِرْعَوْنَ النُّذُرُ

**Transliteration:** Wa laqad jaaa'a Aala Fir'awnan nuzur

**Translation:** And there certainly came to the people of Pharaoh warning.

#### Verse 42

كَذَّبُوا بِآيَاتِنَا كُلِّهَا فَأَخَذْنَاهُمْ أَخْذَ عَزِيزٍ مُّقْتَدِرٍ

**Transliteration:** Kazzaboo bi Aayaatinaa kullihaa fa akhaznaahum akhza 'azeezim muqtadir

**Translation:** They denied Our signs, all of them, so We seized them with a seizure of one Exalted in Might and Perfect in Ability.

#### Verse 43

أَكُفَّارُكُمْ خَيْرٌ مِّنْ أُولَٰئِكُمْ أَمْ لَكُم بَرَاءَةٌ فِي الزُّبُرِ

**Transliteration:** Akuffaarukum khairum min ulaaa'ikum am lakum baraaa'atun fiz Zubur

**Translation:** Are your disbelievers better than those [former ones], or have you immunity in the scripture?

#### Verse 44

أَمْ يَقُولُونَ نَحْنُ جَمِيعٌ مُّنتَصِرٌ

**Transliteration:** Am yaqooloona nahnu jamee'um muntasir

**Translation:** Or do they say, "We are an assembly supporting [each other]"?

#### Verse 45

سَيُهْزَمُ الْجَمْعُ وَيُوَلُّونَ الدُّبُرَ

**Transliteration:** Sa yuhzamul jam'u wa yuwalloonad dubur

**Translation:** [Their] assembly will be defeated, and they will turn their backs [in retreat].

#### Verse 46

بَلِ السَّاعَةُ مَوْعِدُهُمْ وَالسَّاعَةُ أَدْهَىٰ وَأَمَرُّ

**Transliteration:** Balis Saa'atu maw'iduhum was Saa'atu adhaa wa amarr

**Translation:** But the Hour is their appointment [for due punishment], and the Hour is more disastrous and more bitter.

#### Verse 47

إِنَّ الْمُجْرِمِينَ فِي ضَلَالٍ وَسُعُرٍ

**Transliteration:** Innal mujrimeena fee dalaalinw wa su'ur

**Translation:** Indeed, the criminals are in error and madness.

#### Verse 48

يَوْمَ يُسْحَبُونَ فِي النَّارِ عَلَىٰ وُجُوهِهِمْ ذُوقُوا مَسَّ سَقَرَ

**Transliteration:** Yawma yushaboona fin Naari'alaa wujoohimim zooqoo massa saqar

**Translation:** The Day they are dragged into the Fire on their faces [it will be said], "Taste the touch of Saqar."

#### Verse 49

إِنَّا كُلَّ شَيْءٍ خَلَقْنَاهُ بِقَدَرٍ

**Transliteration:** Innaa kulla shai'in khalaqnaahu biqadar

**Translation:** Indeed, all things We created with predestination.

#### Verse 50

وَمَا أَمْرُنَا إِلَّا وَاحِدَةٌ كَلَمْحٍ بِالْبَصَرِ

**Transliteration:** Wa maaa amrunaaa illaa waahidatun kalamhim bilbasar

**Translation:** And Our command is but one, like a glance of the eye.

#### Verse 51

وَلَقَدْ أَهْلَكْنَا أَشْيَاعَكُمْ فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍ

**Transliteration:** Wa laqad ahlaknaaa ashyaa'akum fahal mim muddakir

**Translation:** And We have already destroyed your kinds, so is there any who will remember?

#### Verse 52

وَكُلُّ شَيْءٍ فَعَلُوهُ فِي الزُّبُرِ

**Transliteration:** Wa kullu shai'in fa'aloohu fiz Zubur

**Translation:** And everything they did is in written records.

#### Verse 53

وَكُلُّ صَغِيرٍ وَكَبِيرٍ مُّسْتَطَرٌ

**Transliteration:** Wa kullu sagheerinw wa kabeerim mustatar

**Translation:** And every small and great [thing] is inscribed.

#### Verse 54

إِنَّ الْمُتَّقِينَ فِي جَنَّاتٍ وَنَهَرٍ

**Transliteration:** Innal muttaqeena fee jannaatinw wa nahar

**Translation:** Indeed, the righteous will be among gardens and rivers,

#### Verse 55

فِي مَقْعَدِ صِدْقٍ عِندَ مَلِيكٍ مُّقْتَدِرٍ

**Transliteration:** Fee maq'adi sidqin 'inda Maleekim Muqtadir

**Translation:** In a seat of honor near a Sovereign, Perfect in Ability.
