**Translation:** The Inevitable

### Pre-Bismillah

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

*In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.*

### Verses

#### Verse 1

إِذَا وَقَعَتِ الْوَاقِعَةُ

**Transliteration:** Izaa waqa'atil waaqi'ah

**Translation:** When the Occurrence occurs,

#### Verse 2

لَيْسَ لِوَقْعَتِهَا كَاذِبَةٌ

**Transliteration:** Laisa liwaq'atihaa kaazibah

**Translation:** There is, at its occurrence, no denial.

#### Verse 3

خَافِضَةٌ رَّافِعَةٌ

**Transliteration:** Khafidatur raafi'ah

**Translation:** It will bring down [some] and raise up [others].

#### Verse 4

إِذَا رُجَّتِ الْأَرْضُ رَجًّا

**Transliteration:** Izaa rujjatil ardu rajjaa

**Translation:** When the earth is shaken with convulsion

#### Verse 5

وَبُسَّتِ الْجِبَالُ بَسًّا

**Transliteration:** Wa bussatil jibaalu bassaa

**Translation:** And the mountains are broken down, crumbling

#### Verse 6

فَكَانَتْ هَبَاءً مُّنبَثًّا

**Transliteration:** Fakaanat habaaa'am mumbassaa

**Translation:** And become dust dispersing.

#### Verse 7

وَكُنتُمْ أَزْوَاجًا ثَلَاثَةً

**Transliteration:** Wa kuntum azwaajan salaasah

**Translation:** And you become [of] three kinds:

#### Verse 8

فَأَصْحَابُ الْمَيْمَنَةِ مَا أَصْحَابُ الْمَيْمَنَةِ

**Transliteration:** Fa as haabul maimanati maaa as haabul maimanah

**Translation:** Then the companions of the right - what are the companions of the right?

#### Verse 9

وَأَصْحَابُ الْمَشْأَمَةِ مَا أَصْحَابُ الْمَشْأَمَةِ

**Transliteration:** Wa as haabul mash'amati maaa as haabul mash'amah

**Translation:** And the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left?

#### Verse 10

وَالسَّابِقُونَ السَّابِقُونَ

**Transliteration:** Wassaabiqoonas saabiqoon

**Translation:** And the forerunners, the forerunners -

#### Verse 11

أُولَٰئِكَ الْمُقَرَّبُونَ

**Transliteration:** Ulaaa'ikal muqarraboon

**Translation:** Those are the ones brought near [to Allah]

#### Verse 12

فِي جَنَّاتِ النَّعِيمِ

**Transliteration:** Fee Jannaatin Na'eem

**Translation:** In the Gardens of Pleasure,

#### Verse 13

ثُلَّةٌ مِّنَ الْأَوَّلِينَ

**Transliteration:** Sullatum minal awwaleen

**Translation:** A [large] company of the former peoples

#### Verse 14

وَقَلِيلٌ مِّنَ الْآخِرِينَ

**Transliteration:** Wa qaleelum minal aa khireen

**Translation:** And a few of the later peoples,

#### Verse 15

عَلَىٰ سُرُرٍ مَّوْضُونَةٍ

**Transliteration:** 'Alaa sururim mawdoonah

**Translation:** On thrones woven [with ornament],

#### Verse 16

مُّتَّكِئِينَ عَلَيْهَا مُتَقَابِلِينَ

**Transliteration:** Muttaki'eena 'alaihaa mutaqabileen

**Translation:** Reclining on them, facing each other.

#### Verse 17

يَطُوفُ عَلَيْهِمْ وِلْدَانٌ مُّخَلَّدُونَ

**Transliteration:** Yatoofu 'alaihim wildaa num mukkhalladoon

**Translation:** There will circulate among them young boys made eternal

#### Verse 18

بِأَكْوَابٍ وَأَبَارِيقَ وَكَأْسٍ مِّن مَّعِينٍ

**Transliteration:** Bi akwaabinw wa abaareeq, wa kaasim mim ma'een

**Translation:** With vessels, pitchers and a cup [of wine] from a flowing spring -

#### Verse 19

لَّا يُصَدَّعُونَ عَنْهَا وَلَا يُنزِفُونَ

**Transliteration:** Laa yusadda'oona 'anhaa wa laa yunzifoon

**Translation:** No headache will they have therefrom, nor will they be intoxicated -

#### Verse 20

وَفَاكِهَةٍ مِّمَّا يَتَخَيَّرُونَ

**Transliteration:** Wa faakihatim mimmaa yatakhaiyaroon

**Translation:** And fruit of what they select

#### Verse 21

وَلَحْمِ طَيْرٍ مِّمَّا يَشْتَهُونَ

**Transliteration:** Wa lahmi tairim mimmaa yashtahoon

**Translation:** And the meat of fowl, from whatever they desire.

#### Verse 22

وَحُورٌ عِينٌ

**Transliteration:** Wa hoorun'een

**Translation:** And [for them are] fair women with large, [beautiful] eyes,

#### Verse 23

كَأَمْثَالِ اللُّؤْلُؤِ الْمَكْنُونِ

**Transliteration:** Ka amsaalil lu'lu'il maknoon

**Translation:** The likenesses of pearls well-protected,

#### Verse 24

جَزَاءً بِمَا كَانُوا يَعْمَلُونَ

**Transliteration:** Jazaaa'am bimaa kaanoo ya'maloon

**Translation:** As reward for what they used to do.

#### Verse 25

لَا يَسْمَعُونَ فِيهَا لَغْوًا وَلَا تَأْثِيمًا

**Transliteration:** Laa yasma'oona feehaa laghwanw wa laa taaseemaa

**Translation:** They will not hear therein ill speech or commission of sin -

#### Verse 26

إِلَّا قِيلًا سَلَامًا سَلَامًا

**Transliteration:** Illaa qeelan salaaman salaamaa

**Translation:** Only a saying: "Peace, peace."

#### Verse 27

وَأَصْحَابُ الْيَمِينِ مَا أَصْحَابُ الْيَمِينِ

**Transliteration:** Wa as haabul yameeni maaa as haabul Yameen

**Translation:** The companions of the right - what are the companions of the right?

#### Verse 28

فِي سِدْرٍ مَّخْضُودٍ

**Transliteration:** Fee sidrim makhdood

**Translation:** [They will be] among lote trees with thorns removed

#### Verse 29

وَطَلْحٍ مَّنضُودٍ

**Transliteration:** Wa talhim mandood

**Translation:** And [banana] trees layered [with fruit]

#### Verse 30

وَظِلٍّ مَّمْدُودٍ

**Transliteration:** Wa zillim mamdood

**Translation:** And shade extended

#### Verse 31

وَمَاءٍ مَّسْكُوبٍ

**Transliteration:** Wa maaa'im maskoob

**Translation:** And water poured out

#### Verse 32

وَفَاكِهَةٍ كَثِيرَةٍ

**Transliteration:** Wa faakihatin kaseerah

**Translation:** And fruit, abundant [and varied],

#### Verse 33

لَّا مَقْطُوعَةٍ وَلَا مَمْنُوعَةٍ

**Transliteration:** Laa maqtoo'atinw wa laa mamnoo'ah

**Translation:** Neither limited [to season] nor forbidden,

#### Verse 34

وَفُرُشٍ مَّرْفُوعَةٍ

**Transliteration:** Wa furushim marfoo'ah

**Translation:** And [upon] beds raised high.

#### Verse 35

إِنَّا أَنشَأْنَاهُنَّ إِنشَاءً

**Transliteration:** Innaaa anshaanaahunna inshaaa'aa

**Translation:** Indeed, We have produced the women of Paradise in a [new] creation

#### Verse 36

فَجَعَلْنَاهُنَّ أَبْكَارًا

**Transliteration:** Faja'alnaahunna abkaaraa

**Translation:** And made them virgins,

#### Verse 37

عُرُبًا أَتْرَابًا

**Transliteration:** 'Uruban atraabaa

**Translation:** Devoted [to their husbands] and of equal age,

#### Verse 38

لِّأَصْحَابِ الْيَمِينِ

**Transliteration:** Li as haabil yameen

**Translation:** For the companions of the right [who are]

#### Verse 39

ثُلَّةٌ مِّنَ الْأَوَّلِينَ

**Transliteration:** Sullatum minal awwa leen

**Translation:** A company of the former peoples

#### Verse 40

وَثُلَّةٌ مِّنَ الْآخِرِينَ

**Transliteration:** Wa sullatum minal aakhireen

**Translation:** And a company of the later peoples.

#### Verse 41

وَأَصْحَابُ الشِّمَالِ مَا أَصْحَابُ الشِّمَالِ

**Transliteration:** Wa as haabush shimaali maaa as haabush shimaal

**Translation:** And the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left?

#### Verse 42

فِي سَمُومٍ وَحَمِيمٍ

**Transliteration:** Fee samoominw wa hameem

**Translation:** [They will be] in scorching fire and scalding water

#### Verse 43

وَظِلٍّ مِّن يَحْمُومٍ

**Transliteration:** Wa zillim miny yahmoom

**Translation:** And a shade of black smoke,

#### Verse 44

لَّا بَارِدٍ وَلَا كَرِيمٍ

**Transliteration:** Laa baaridinw wa laa kareem

**Translation:** Neither cool nor beneficial.

#### Verse 45

إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا قَبْلَ ذَٰلِكَ مُتْرَفِينَ

**Transliteration:** Innaahum kaanoo qabla zaalika mutrafeen

**Translation:** Indeed they were, before that, indulging in affluence,

#### Verse 46

وَكَانُوا يُصِرُّونَ عَلَى الْحِنثِ الْعَظِيمِ

**Transliteration:** Wa kaanoo yusirroona 'alal hinsil 'azeem

**Translation:** And they used to persist in the great violation,

#### Verse 47

وَكَانُوا يَقُولُونَ أَئِذَا مِتْنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابًا وَعِظَامًا أَإِنَّا لَمَبْعُوثُونَ

**Transliteration:** Wa kaanoo yaqooloona a'izaa mitnaa wa kunnaa turaabanw wa izaaman'ainnaa lamab'oosoon

**Translation:** And they used to say, "When we die and become dust and bones, are we indeed to be resurrected?

#### Verse 48

أَوَآبَاؤُنَا الْأَوَّلُونَ

**Transliteration:** Awa aabaaa'unal awwaloon

**Translation:** And our forefathers [as well]?"

#### Verse 49

قُلْ إِنَّ الْأَوَّلِينَ وَالْآخِرِينَ

**Transliteration:** Qul innal awwaleena wal aakhireen

**Translation:** Say, [O Muhammad], "Indeed, the former and the later peoples

#### Verse 50

لَمَجْمُوعُونَ إِلَىٰ مِيقَاتِ يَوْمٍ مَّعْلُومٍ

**Transliteration:** Lamajmoo'oona ilaa meeqaati yawmim ma'loon

**Translation:** Are to be gathered together for the appointment of a known Day."

#### Verse 51

ثُمَّ إِنَّكُمْ أَيُّهَا الضَّالُّونَ الْمُكَذِّبُونَ

**Transliteration:** summa innakum ayyuhad daaalloonal mukazziboon

**Translation:** Then indeed you, O those astray [who are] deniers,

#### Verse 52

لَآكِلُونَ مِن شَجَرٍ مِّن زَقُّومٍ

**Transliteration:** La aakiloona min shaja rim min zaqqoom

**Translation:** Will be eating from trees of zaqqum

#### Verse 53

فَمَالِئُونَ مِنْهَا الْبُطُونَ

**Transliteration:** Famaali'oona minhal butoon

**Translation:** And filling with it your bellies

#### Verse 54

فَشَارِبُونَ عَلَيْهِ مِنَ الْحَمِيمِ

**Transliteration:** Fashaariboona 'alaihi minal hameem

**Translation:** And drinking on top of it from scalding water

#### Verse 55

فَشَارِبُونَ شُرْبَ الْهِيمِ

**Transliteration:** Fashaariboona shurbal heem

**Translation:** And will drink as the drinking of thirsty camels.

#### Verse 56

هَٰذَا نُزُلُهُمْ يَوْمَ الدِّينِ

**Transliteration:** Haazaa nuzuluhum yawmad deen

**Translation:** That is their accommodation on the Day of Recompense.

#### Verse 57

نَحْنُ خَلَقْنَاكُمْ فَلَوْلَا تُصَدِّقُونَ

**Transliteration:** Nahnu khalaqnaakum falaw laa tusaddiqoon

**Translation:** We have created you, so why do you not believe?

#### Verse 58

أَفَرَأَيْتُم مَّا تُمْنُونَ

**Transliteration:** Afara'aytum maa tumnoon

**Translation:** Have you seen that which you emit?

#### Verse 59

أَأَنتُمْ تَخْلُقُونَهُ أَمْ نَحْنُ الْخَالِقُونَ

**Transliteration:** 'A-antum takhluqoo nahooo am nahnul khaaliqoon

**Translation:** Is it you who creates it, or are We the Creator?

#### Verse 60

نَحْنُ قَدَّرْنَا بَيْنَكُمُ الْمَوْتَ وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمَسْبُوقِينَ

**Transliteration:** Nahnu qaddarnaa baina kumul mawta wa maa nahnu bimasbooqeen

**Translation:** We have decreed death among you, and We are not to be outdone

#### Verse 61

عَلَىٰ أَن نُّبَدِّلَ أَمْثَالَكُمْ وَنُنشِئَكُمْ فِي مَا لَا تَعْلَمُونَ

**Transliteration:** 'Alaaa an nubaddila amsaalakum wa nunshi'akum fee maa laa ta'lamoon

**Translation:** In that We will change your likenesses and produce you in that [form] which you do not know.

#### Verse 62

وَلَقَدْ عَلِمْتُمُ النَّشْأَةَ الْأُولَىٰ فَلَوْلَا تَذَكَّرُونَ

**Transliteration:** Wa laqad 'alimtumun nash atal oolaa falaw laa tazakkaroon

**Translation:** And you have already known the first creation, so will you not remember?

#### Verse 63

أَفَرَأَيْتُم مَّا تَحْرُثُونَ

**Transliteration:** Afara'aytum maa tahrusoon

**Translation:** And have you seen that [seed] which you sow?

#### Verse 64

أَأَنتُمْ تَزْرَعُونَهُ أَمْ نَحْنُ الزَّارِعُونَ

**Transliteration:** 'A-antum tazra'oonahooo am nahnuz zaari'ooon

**Translation:** Is it you who makes it grow, or are We the grower?

#### Verse 65

لَوْ نَشَاءُ لَجَعَلْنَاهُ حُطَامًا فَظَلْتُمْ تَفَكَّهُونَ

**Transliteration:** Law nashaaa'u laja'al naahu hutaaman fazaltum tafakkahoon

**Translation:** If We willed, We could make it [dry] debris, and you would remain in wonder,

#### Verse 66

إِنَّا لَمُغْرَمُونَ

**Transliteration:** Innaa lamughramoon

**Translation:** [Saying], "Indeed, we are [now] in debt;

#### Verse 67

بَلْ نَحْنُ مَحْرُومُونَ

**Transliteration:** Bal nahnu mahroomoon

**Translation:** Rather, we have been deprived."

#### Verse 68

أَفَرَأَيْتُمُ الْمَاءَ الَّذِي تَشْرَبُونَ

**Transliteration:** Afara'aytumul maaa'allazee tashraboon

**Translation:** And have you seen the water that you drink?

#### Verse 69

أَأَنتُمْ أَنزَلْتُمُوهُ مِنَ الْمُزْنِ أَمْ نَحْنُ الْمُنزِلُونَ

**Transliteration:** 'A-antum anzaltumoohu minal muzni am nahnul munziloon

**Translation:** Is it you who brought it down from the clouds, or is it We who bring it down?

#### Verse 70

لَوْ نَشَاءُ جَعَلْنَاهُ أُجَاجًا فَلَوْلَا تَشْكُرُونَ

**Transliteration:** Law nashaaa'u ja'alnaahu ujaajan falaw laa tashkuroon

**Translation:** If We willed, We could make it bitter, so why are you not grateful?

#### Verse 71

أَفَرَأَيْتُمُ النَّارَ الَّتِي تُورُونَ

**Transliteration:** Afara'aytumun naaral latee tooroon

**Translation:** And have you seen the fire that you ignite?

#### Verse 72

أَأَنتُمْ أَنشَأْتُمْ شَجَرَتَهَا أَمْ نَحْنُ الْمُنشِئُونَ

**Transliteration:** 'A-antum anshaatum shajaratahaaa am nahnul munshi'oon

**Translation:** Is it you who produced its tree, or are We the producer?

#### Verse 73

نَحْنُ جَعَلْنَاهَا تَذْكِرَةً وَمَتَاعًا لِّلْمُقْوِينَ

**Transliteration:** Nahnu ja'alnaahaa tazkira tanw wa mataa'al lilmuqween

**Translation:** We have made it a reminder and provision for the travelers,

#### Verse 74

فَسَبِّحْ بِاسْمِ رَبِّكَ الْعَظِيمِ

**Transliteration:** Fasabbih bismi Rabbikal 'azeem

**Translation:** So exalt the name of your Lord, the Most Great.

#### Verse 75

۞ فَلَا أُقْسِمُ بِمَوَاقِعِ النُّجُومِ

**Transliteration:** Falaa uqsimu bimaawaa qi'innujoom

**Translation:** Then I swear by the setting of the stars,

#### Verse 76

وَإِنَّهُ لَقَسَمٌ لَّوْ تَعْلَمُونَ عَظِيمٌ

**Transliteration:** Wa innahoo laqasamul lawta'lamoona'azeem

**Translation:** And indeed, it is an oath - if you could know - [most] great.

#### Verse 77

إِنَّهُ لَقُرْآنٌ كَرِيمٌ

**Transliteration:** Innahoo la quraanun kareem

**Translation:** Indeed, it is a noble Qur'an

#### Verse 78

فِي كِتَابٍ مَّكْنُونٍ

**Transliteration:** Fee kitaabim maknoon

**Translation:** In a Register well-protected;

#### Verse 79

لَّا يَمَسُّهُ إِلَّا الْمُطَهَّرُونَ

**Transliteration:** Laa yamassuhooo illal mutahharoon

**Translation:** None touch it except the purified.

#### Verse 80

تَنزِيلٌ مِّن رَّبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ

**Transliteration:** Tanzeelum mir Rabbil'aalameen

**Translation:** [It is] a revelation from the Lord of the worlds.

#### Verse 81

أَفَبِهَٰذَا الْحَدِيثِ أَنتُم مُّدْهِنُونَ

**Transliteration:** Afabihaazal hadeesi antum mudhinoon

**Translation:** Then is it to this statement that you are indifferent

#### Verse 82

وَتَجْعَلُونَ رِزْقَكُمْ أَنَّكُمْ تُكَذِّبُونَ

**Transliteration:** Wa taj'aloona rizqakum annakum tukazziboon

**Translation:** And make [the thanks for] your provision that you deny [the Provider]?

#### Verse 83

فَلَوْلَا إِذَا بَلَغَتِ الْحُلْقُومَ

**Transliteration:** Falaw laaa izaa balaghatil hulqoom

**Translation:** Then why, when the soul at death reaches the throat

#### Verse 84

وَأَنتُمْ حِينَئِذٍ تَنظُرُونَ

**Transliteration:** Wa antum heena'izin tanzuroon

**Translation:** And you are at that time looking on -

#### Verse 85

وَنَحْنُ أَقْرَبُ إِلَيْهِ مِنكُمْ وَلَٰكِن لَّا تُبْصِرُونَ

**Transliteration:** Wa nahnu aqrabu ilaihi minkum wa laakil laa tubsiroon

**Translation:** And Our angels are nearer to him than you, but you do not see -

#### Verse 86

فَلَوْلَا إِن كُنتُمْ غَيْرَ مَدِينِينَ

**Transliteration:** Falaw laaa in kuntum ghira madeeneen

**Translation:** Then why do you not, if you are not to be recompensed,

#### Verse 87

تَرْجِعُونَهَا إِن كُنتُمْ صَادِقِينَ

**Transliteration:** Tarji'oonahaaa in kuntum saadiqeen

**Translation:** Bring it back, if you should be truthful?

#### Verse 88

فَأَمَّا إِن كَانَ مِنَ الْمُقَرَّبِينَ

**Transliteration:** Fa ammaaa in kaana minal muqarrabeen

**Translation:** And if the deceased was of those brought near to Allah,

#### Verse 89

فَرَوْحٌ وَرَيْحَانٌ وَجَنَّتُ نَعِيمٍ

**Transliteration:** Farawhunw wa raihaa nunw wa jannatu na'eem

**Translation:** Then [for him is] rest and bounty and a garden of pleasure.

#### Verse 90

وَأَمَّا إِن كَانَ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ الْيَمِينِ

**Transliteration:** Wa ammaaa in kaana min as haabil yameen

**Translation:** And if he was of the companions of the right,

#### Verse 91

فَسَلَامٌ لَّكَ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ الْيَمِينِ

**Transliteration:** Fasalaamul laka min as haabil yameen

**Translation:** Then [the angels will say], "Peace for you; [you are] from the companions of the right."

#### Verse 92

وَأَمَّا إِن كَانَ مِنَ الْمُكَذِّبِينَ الضَّالِّينَ

**Transliteration:** Wa ammaaa in kaana minal mukazzibeenad daaalleen

**Translation:** But if he was of the deniers [who were] astray,

#### Verse 93

فَنُزُلٌ مِّنْ حَمِيمٍ

**Transliteration:** Fanuzulum min hameem

**Translation:** Then [for him is] accommodation of scalding water

#### Verse 94

وَتَصْلِيَةُ جَحِيمٍ

**Transliteration:** Wa tasliyatu jaheem

**Translation:** And burning in Hellfire

#### Verse 95

إِنَّ هَٰذَا لَهُوَ حَقُّ الْيَقِينِ

**Transliteration:** Inna haaza lahuwa haqqul yaqeen

**Translation:** Indeed, this is the true certainty,

#### Verse 96

فَسَبِّحْ بِاسْمِ رَبِّكَ الْعَظِيمِ

**Transliteration:** Fasabbih bismi rabbikal 'azeem

**Translation:** So exalt the name of your Lord, the Most Great.
