# Nakafa Framework: LLM URL: https://nakafa.com/en/quran/68 Al-Quran - Surah Al-Qalam (The Pen) --- ## Al-Qalam **Translation:** The Pen **Revelation:** Meccan **Number of Verses:** 52 ### Pre-Bismillah بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ *In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.* ### Verses #### Verse 1 ن ۚ وَالْقَلَمِ وَمَا يَسْطُرُونَ **Transliteration:** Noon; walqalami wa maa yasturoon **Translation:** Nun. By the pen and what they inscribe, #### Verse 2 مَا أَنتَ بِنِعْمَةِ رَبِّكَ بِمَجْنُونٍ **Transliteration:** Maa anta bini'mati Rabbika bimajnoon **Translation:** You are not, [O Muhammad], by the favor of your Lord, a madman. #### Verse 3 وَإِنَّ لَكَ لَأَجْرًا غَيْرَ مَمْنُونٍ **Transliteration:** Wa inna laka la ajran ghaira mamnoon **Translation:** And indeed, for you is a reward uninterrupted. #### Verse 4 وَإِنَّكَ لَعَلَىٰ خُلُقٍ عَظِيمٍ **Transliteration:** Wa innaka la'alaa khuluqin 'azeem **Translation:** And indeed, you are of a great moral character. #### Verse 5 فَسَتُبْصِرُ وَيُبْصِرُونَ **Transliteration:** Fasatubsiru wa yubsiroon **Translation:** So you will see and they will see #### Verse 6 بِأَييِّكُمُ الْمَفْتُونُ **Transliteration:** Bi ayyikumul maftoon **Translation:** Which of you is the afflicted [by a devil]. #### Verse 7 إِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَن ضَلَّ عَن سَبِيلِهِ وَهُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِالْمُهْتَدِينَ **Transliteration:** Innaa Rabbaka Huwa a'lamu biman dalla 'an sabeelihee wa Huwa a'lamu bilmuhtadeen **Translation:** Indeed, your Lord is most knowing of who has gone astray from His way, and He is most knowing of the [rightly] guided. #### Verse 8 فَلَا تُطِعِ الْمُكَذِّبِينَ **Transliteration:** Falaa tuti'il mukazzibeen **Translation:** Then do not obey the deniers. #### Verse 9 وَدُّوا لَوْ تُدْهِنُ فَيُدْهِنُونَ **Transliteration:** Waddoo law tudhinu fa-yudhinoon **Translation:** They wish that you would soften [in your position], so they would soften [toward you]. #### Verse 10 وَلَا تُطِعْ كُلَّ حَلَّافٍ مَّهِينٍ **Transliteration:** Wa laa tuti' kulla hallaa fim maheen **Translation:** And do not obey every worthless habitual swearer #### Verse 11 هَمَّازٍ مَّشَّاءٍ بِنَمِيمٍ **Transliteration:** Hammaazim mash shaaa'im binameem **Translation:** [And] scorner, going about with malicious gossip - #### Verse 12 مَّنَّاعٍ لِّلْخَيْرِ مُعْتَدٍ أَثِيمٍ **Transliteration:** Mannaa'il lilkhairi mu'tadin aseem **Translation:** A preventer of good, transgressing and sinful, #### Verse 13 عُتُلٍّ بَعْدَ ذَٰلِكَ زَنِيمٍ **Transliteration:** 'Utullim ba'da zaalika zaneem **Translation:** Cruel, moreover, and an illegitimate pretender. #### Verse 14 أَن كَانَ ذَا مَالٍ وَبَنِينَ **Transliteration:** An kaana zaa maalinw-wa baneen **Translation:** Because he is a possessor of wealth and children, #### Verse 15 إِذَا تُتْلَىٰ عَلَيْهِ آيَاتُنَا قَالَ أَسَاطِيرُ الْأَوَّلِينَ **Transliteration:** Izaa tutlaa 'alaihi aayaatunaa qaala asaateerul awwaleen **Translation:** When Our verses are recited to him, he says, "Legends of the former peoples." #### Verse 16 سَنَسِمُهُ عَلَى الْخُرْطُومِ **Transliteration:** Sanasimuhoo 'alal khurtoom **Translation:** We will brand him upon the snout. #### Verse 17 إِنَّا بَلَوْنَاهُمْ كَمَا بَلَوْنَا أَصْحَابَ الْجَنَّةِ إِذْ أَقْسَمُوا لَيَصْرِمُنَّهَا مُصْبِحِينَ **Transliteration:** Innaa balawnaahum kamaa balawnaaa As-haabal jannati iz 'aqsamoo la-yasri munnahaa musbiheen **Translation:** Indeed, We have tried them as We tried the companions of the garden, when they swore to cut its fruit in the [early] morning #### Verse 18 وَلَا يَسْتَثْنُونَ **Transliteration:** Wa laa yastasnoon **Translation:** Without making exception. #### Verse 19 فَطَافَ عَلَيْهَا طَائِفٌ مِّن رَّبِّكَ وَهُمْ نَائِمُونَ **Transliteration:** Fataafa 'alaihaa taaa'i fum mir rabbika wa hum naaa'imoon **Translation:** So there came upon the garden an affliction from your Lord while they were asleep. #### Verse 20 فَأَصْبَحَتْ كَالصَّرِيمِ **Transliteration:** Fa asbahat kassareem **Translation:** And it became as though reaped. #### Verse 21 فَتَنَادَوْا مُصْبِحِينَ **Transliteration:** Fatanaadaw musbiheen **Translation:** And they called one another at morning, #### Verse 22 أَنِ اغْدُوا عَلَىٰ حَرْثِكُمْ إِن كُنتُمْ صَارِمِينَ **Transliteration:** Anighdoo 'alaa harsikum in kuntum saarimeen **Translation:** [Saying], "Go early to your crop if you would cut the fruit." #### Verse 23 فَانطَلَقُوا وَهُمْ يَتَخَافَتُونَ **Transliteration:** Fantalaqoo wa hum yatakhaafatoon **Translation:** So they set out, while lowering their voices, #### Verse 24 أَن لَّا يَدْخُلَنَّهَا الْيَوْمَ عَلَيْكُم مِّسْكِينٌ **Transliteration:** Al laa yadkhulannahal yawma 'alaikum miskeen **Translation:** [Saying], "There will surely not enter it today upon you [any] poor person." #### Verse 25 وَغَدَوْا عَلَىٰ حَرْدٍ قَادِرِينَ **Transliteration:** Wa ghadaw 'alaa hardin qaadireen **Translation:** And they went early in determination, [assuming themselves] able. #### Verse 26 فَلَمَّا رَأَوْهَا قَالُوا إِنَّا لَضَالُّونَ **Transliteration:** Falammaa ra awhaa qaalooo innaa ladaaalloon **Translation:** But when they saw it, they said, "Indeed, we are lost; #### Verse 27 بَلْ نَحْنُ مَحْرُومُونَ **Transliteration:** Bal nahnu mahroomoon **Translation:** Rather, we have been deprived." #### Verse 28 قَالَ أَوْسَطُهُمْ أَلَمْ أَقُل لَّكُمْ لَوْلَا تُسَبِّحُونَ **Transliteration:** Qaala awsatuhum alam aqul lakum law laa tusabbihoon **Translation:** The most moderate of them said, "Did I not say to you, 'Why do you not exalt [Allah]?' " #### Verse 29 قَالُوا سُبْحَانَ رَبِّنَا إِنَّا كُنَّا ظَالِمِينَ **Transliteration:** Qaaloo subhaana rabbinaaa innaa kunnaa zaalimeen **Translation:** They said, "Exalted is our Lord! Indeed, we were wrongdoers." #### Verse 30 فَأَقْبَلَ بَعْضُهُمْ عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍ يَتَلَاوَمُونَ **Transliteration:** Fa aqbala ba'duhum 'alaa ba'diny yatalaawamoon **Translation:** Then they approached one another, blaming each other. #### Verse 31 قَالُوا يَا وَيْلَنَا إِنَّا كُنَّا طَاغِينَ **Transliteration:** Qaaloo yaa wailanaaa innaa kunnaa taagheen **Translation:** They said, "O woe to us; indeed we were transgressors. #### Verse 32 عَسَىٰ رَبُّنَا أَن يُبْدِلَنَا خَيْرًا مِّنْهَا إِنَّا إِلَىٰ رَبِّنَا رَاغِبُونَ **Transliteration:** 'Asaa rabbunaaa any yubdilanaa khairam minhaaa innaaa ilaa rabbinaa raaghiboon **Translation:** Perhaps our Lord will substitute for us [one] better than it. Indeed, we are toward our Lord desirous." #### Verse 33 كَذَٰلِكَ الْعَذَابُ ۖ وَلَعَذَابُ الْآخِرَةِ أَكْبَرُ ۚ لَوْ كَانُوا يَعْلَمُونَ **Transliteration:** Kazaalikal azaab, wa la'azaabul aakhirati akbar; law kaanoo ya'lamoon **Translation:** Such is the punishment [of this world]. And the punishment of the Hereafter is greater, if they only knew. #### Verse 34 إِنَّ لِلْمُتَّقِينَ عِندَ رَبِّهِمْ جَنَّاتِ النَّعِيمِ **Transliteration:** Inna lilmuttaqeena 'inda rabbihim jannaatin na'eem **Translation:** Indeed, for the righteous with their Lord are the Gardens of Pleasure. #### Verse 35 أَفَنَجْعَلُ الْمُسْلِمِينَ كَالْمُجْرِمِينَ **Transliteration:** Afanaj'alul muslimeena kalmujrimeen **Translation:** Then will We treat the Muslims like the criminals? #### Verse 36 مَا لَكُمْ كَيْفَ تَحْكُمُونَ **Transliteration:** Maa lakum kaifa tahhkumoon **Translation:** What is [the matter] with you? How do you judge? #### Verse 37 أَمْ لَكُمْ كِتَابٌ فِيهِ تَدْرُسُونَ **Transliteration:** Am lakum kitaabun feehi tadrusoon **Translation:** Or do you have a scripture in which you learn #### Verse 38 إِنَّ لَكُمْ فِيهِ لَمَا تَخَيَّرُونَ **Transliteration:** Inna lakum feehi lamaa takhaiyaroon **Translation:** That indeed for you is whatever you choose? #### Verse 39 أَمْ لَكُمْ أَيْمَانٌ عَلَيْنَا بَالِغَةٌ إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ ۙ إِنَّ لَكُمْ لَمَا تَحْكُمُونَ **Transliteration:** Am lakum aymaanun 'alainaa baalighatun ilaa yawmil qiyaamati inna lakum lamaa tahkumoon **Translation:** Or do you have oaths [binding] upon Us, extending until the Day of Resurrection, that indeed for you is whatever you judge? #### Verse 40 سَلْهُمْ أَيُّهُم بِذَٰلِكَ زَعِيمٌ **Transliteration:** Salhum ayyuhum bizaa lika za'eem **Translation:** Ask them which of them, for that [claim], is responsible. #### Verse 41 أَمْ لَهُمْ شُرَكَاءُ فَلْيَأْتُوا بِشُرَكَائِهِمْ إِن كَانُوا صَادِقِينَ **Transliteration:** Am lahum shurakaaa'u falyaatoo bishurakaaa 'ihim in kaanoo saadiqeen **Translation:** Or do they have partners? Then let them bring their partners, if they should be truthful. #### Verse 42 يَوْمَ يُكْشَفُ عَن سَاقٍ وَيُدْعَوْنَ إِلَى السُّجُودِ فَلَا يَسْتَطِيعُونَ **Transliteration:** Yawma yukshafu 'am saaqinw wa yud'awna ilas sujoodi falaa yastatee'oon **Translation:** The Day the shin will be uncovered and they are invited to prostration but the disbelievers will not be able, #### Verse 43 خَاشِعَةً أَبْصَارُهُمْ تَرْهَقُهُمْ ذِلَّةٌ ۖ وَقَدْ كَانُوا يُدْعَوْنَ إِلَى السُّجُودِ وَهُمْ سَالِمُونَ **Transliteration:** Khaashi'atan absaaruhum tarhaquhum zillatunw wa qad kaanoo yud'awna ilassujoodi wa hum saalimoon **Translation:** Their eyes humbled, humiliation will cover them. And they used to be invited to prostration while they were sound. #### Verse 44 فَذَرْنِي وَمَن يُكَذِّبُ بِهَٰذَا الْحَدِيثِ ۖ سَنَسْتَدْرِجُهُم مِّنْ حَيْثُ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ **Transliteration:** Fazarnee wa many yukazzibu bihaazal hadeesi sanastad rijuhum min haisu laa ya'lamoon **Translation:** So leave Me, [O Muhammad], with [the matter of] whoever denies the Qur'an. We will progressively lead them [to punishment] from where they do not know. #### Verse 45 وَأُمْلِي لَهُمْ ۚ إِنَّ كَيْدِي مَتِينٌ **Transliteration:** Wa umlee lahum; inna kaidee mateen **Translation:** And I will give them time. Indeed, My plan is firm. #### Verse 46 أَمْ تَسْأَلُهُمْ أَجْرًا فَهُم مِّن مَّغْرَمٍ مُّثْقَلُونَ **Transliteration:** Am tas'aluhum ajran fahum mim maghramim musqaloon **Translation:** Or do you ask of them a payment, so they are by debt burdened down? #### Verse 47 أَمْ عِندَهُمُ الْغَيْبُ فَهُمْ يَكْتُبُونَ **Transliteration:** Am 'indahumul ghaibu fahum yaktuboon **Translation:** Or have they [knowledge of] the unseen, so they write [it] down? #### Verse 48 فَاصْبِرْ لِحُكْمِ رَبِّكَ وَلَا تَكُن كَصَاحِبِ الْحُوتِ إِذْ نَادَىٰ وَهُوَ مَكْظُومٌ **Transliteration:** Fasbir lihkmi rabbika wa laa takun kasaahibil boot; iz naadaa wa huwa makzoom **Translation:** Then be patient for the decision of your Lord, [O Muhammad], and be not like the companion of the fish when he called out while he was distressed. #### Verse 49 لَّوْلَا أَن تَدَارَكَهُ نِعْمَةٌ مِّن رَّبِّهِ لَنُبِذَ بِالْعَرَاءِ وَهُوَ مَذْمُومٌ **Transliteration:** Law laaa an tadaara kahoo ni'matum mir rabbihee lanubiza bil'araaa'i wa huwa mazmoom **Translation:** If not that a favor from his Lord overtook him, he would have been thrown onto the naked shore while he was censured. #### Verse 50 فَاجْتَبَاهُ رَبُّهُ فَجَعَلَهُ مِنَ الصَّالِحِينَ **Transliteration:** Fajtabaahu rabbuhoo faja'alahoo minas saaliheen **Translation:** And his Lord chose him and made him of the righteous. #### Verse 51 وَإِن يَكَادُ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا لَيُزْلِقُونَكَ بِأَبْصَارِهِمْ لَمَّا سَمِعُوا الذِّكْرَ وَيَقُولُونَ إِنَّهُ لَمَجْنُونٌ **Transliteration:** Wa iny-yakaadul lazeena kafaroo la-yuzliqoonaka biabsaarihim lammaa saml'uz-Zikra wa yaqooloona innahoo lamajnoon **Translation:** And indeed, those who disbelieve would almost make you slip with their eyes when they hear the message, and they say, "Indeed, he is mad." #### Verse 52 وَمَا هُوَ إِلَّا ذِكْرٌ لِّلْعَالَمِينَ **Transliteration:** Wa maa huwa illaa zikrul lil'aalameen **Translation:** But it is not except a reminder to the worlds.
