## Al-Jinn

**Translation:** The Jinn

### Pre-Bismillah

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

*In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.*

### Verses

#### Verse 1

قُلْ أُوحِيَ إِلَيَّ أَنَّهُ اسْتَمَعَ نَفَرٌ مِّنَ الْجِنِّ فَقَالُوا إِنَّا سَمِعْنَا قُرْآنًا عَجَبًا

**Transliteration:** Qul oohiya ilaiya annna hustama'a nafarum minal jinnni faqaalooo innaa sami'naa quraanan 'ajabaa

**Translation:** Say, [O Muhammad], "It has been revealed to me that a group of the jinn listened and said, 'Indeed, we have heard an amazing Qur'an.

#### Verse 2

يَهْدِي إِلَى الرُّشْدِ فَآمَنَّا بِهِ ۖ وَلَن نُّشْرِكَ بِرَبِّنَا أَحَدًا

**Transliteration:** Yahdeee ilar rushdi fa aamannaa bihee wa lan nushrika bi rabbinaaa ahadaa

**Translation:** It guides to the right course, and we have believed in it. And we will never associate with our Lord anyone.

#### Verse 3

وَأَنَّهُ تَعَالَىٰ جَدُّ رَبِّنَا مَا اتَّخَذَ صَاحِبَةً وَلَا وَلَدًا

**Transliteration:** Wa annahoo Ta'aalaa jaddu Rabbinaa mat takhaza saahibatanw wa la waladaa

**Translation:** And [it teaches] that exalted is the nobleness of our Lord; He has not taken a wife or a son

#### Verse 4

وَأَنَّهُ كَانَ يَقُولُ سَفِيهُنَا عَلَى اللَّهِ شَطَطًا

**Transliteration:** Wa annahoo kaana yaqoolu safeehunaa 'alal laahi shatataa

**Translation:** And that our foolish one has been saying about Allah an excessive transgression.

#### Verse 5

وَأَنَّا ظَنَنَّا أَن لَّن تَقُولَ الْإِنسُ وَالْجِنُّ عَلَى اللَّهِ كَذِبًا

**Transliteration:** Wa annaa zanannaaa al lan taqoolal insu wal jinnu 'alal laahi kazibaa

**Translation:** And we had thought that mankind and the jinn would never speak about Allah a lie.

#### Verse 6

وَأَنَّهُ كَانَ رِجَالٌ مِّنَ الْإِنسِ يَعُوذُونَ بِرِجَالٍ مِّنَ الْجِنِّ فَزَادُوهُمْ رَهَقًا

**Transliteration:** Wa annahoo kaana rijaa lum minal insi ya'oozoona birijaalim minal jinni fazaa doohum rahaqaa

**Translation:** And there were men from mankind who sought refuge in men from the jinn, so they [only] increased them in burden.

#### Verse 7

وَأَنَّهُمْ ظَنُّوا كَمَا ظَنَنتُمْ أَن لَّن يَبْعَثَ اللَّهُ أَحَدًا

**Transliteration:** Wa annahum zannoo kamaa zanantum al lany yab'asal laahu ahadaa

**Translation:** And they had thought, as you thought, that Allah would never send anyone [as a messenger].

#### Verse 8

وَأَنَّا لَمَسْنَا السَّمَاءَ فَوَجَدْنَاهَا مُلِئَتْ حَرَسًا شَدِيدًا وَشُهُبًا

**Transliteration:** Wa annaa lamasnas sa maaa'a fa wajadnaahaa muli'at harasan shadeedanw wa shuhubaa

**Translation:** And we have sought [to reach] the heaven but found it filled with powerful guards and burning flames.

#### Verse 9

وَأَنَّا كُنَّا نَقْعُدُ مِنْهَا مَقَاعِدَ لِلسَّمْعِ ۖ فَمَن يَسْتَمِعِ الْآنَ يَجِدْ لَهُ شِهَابًا رَّصَدًا

**Transliteration:** Wa annaa kunnaa naq'udu minhaa maqaa'ida lis'sam'i famany yastami'il aana yajid lahoo shihaabar rasada

**Translation:** And we used to sit therein in positions for hearing, but whoever listens now will find a burning flame lying in wait for him.

#### Verse 10

وَأَنَّا لَا نَدْرِي أَشَرٌّ أُرِيدَ بِمَن فِي الْأَرْضِ أَمْ أَرَادَ بِهِمْ رَبُّهُمْ رَشَدًا

**Transliteration:** Wa annaa laa nadreee asharrun ureeda biman fil ardi am araada bihim rabbuhum rashadaa

**Translation:** And we do not know [therefore] whether evil is intended for those on earth or whether their Lord intends for them a right course.

#### Verse 11

وَأَنَّا مِنَّا الصَّالِحُونَ وَمِنَّا دُونَ ذَٰلِكَ ۖ كُنَّا طَرَائِقَ قِدَدًا

**Transliteration:** Wa annaa minnas saalihoona wa minnaa doona zaalika kunnaa taraaa'ilqa qidadaa

**Translation:** And among us are the righteous, and among us are [others] not so; we were [of] divided ways.

#### Verse 12

وَأَنَّا ظَنَنَّا أَن لَّن نُّعْجِزَ اللَّهَ فِي الْأَرْضِ وَلَن نُّعْجِزَهُ هَرَبًا

**Transliteration:** Wa annaa zanannaaa al lan nu'jizal laaha fil ardi wa lan nu'jizahoo harabaa

**Translation:** And we have become certain that we will never cause failure to Allah upon earth, nor can we escape Him by flight.

#### Verse 13

وَأَنَّا لَمَّا سَمِعْنَا الْهُدَىٰ آمَنَّا بِهِ ۖ فَمَن يُؤْمِن بِرَبِّهِ فَلَا يَخَافُ بَخْسًا وَلَا رَهَقًا

**Transliteration:** Wa annaa lammaa sami'nal hudaaa aamannaa bihee famany yu'mim bi rabbihee falaa yakhaafu bakhsanw wa laa rahaqaa

**Translation:** And when we heard the guidance, we believed in it. And whoever believes in his Lord will not fear deprivation or burden.

#### Verse 14

وَأَنَّا مِنَّا الْمُسْلِمُونَ وَمِنَّا الْقَاسِطُونَ ۖ فَمَنْ أَسْلَمَ فَأُولَٰئِكَ تَحَرَّوْا رَشَدًا

**Transliteration:** Wa annaa minnal muslimoona wa minnal qaasitoona faman aslama fa ulaaa'ika taharraw rashadaa

**Translation:** And among us are Muslims [in submission to Allah], and among us are the unjust. And whoever has become Muslim - those have sought out the right course.

#### Verse 15

وَأَمَّا الْقَاسِطُونَ فَكَانُوا لِجَهَنَّمَ حَطَبًا

**Transliteration:** Wa ammal qaasitoona fa kaanoo li jahannama hatabaa

**Translation:** But as for the unjust, they will be, for Hell, firewood.'

#### Verse 16

وَأَن لَّوِ اسْتَقَامُوا عَلَى الطَّرِيقَةِ لَأَسْقَيْنَاهُم مَّاءً غَدَقًا

**Transliteration:** Wa alla wis taqaamoo 'alat tareeqati la asqaynaahum maa'an ghadaqaa

**Translation:** And [Allah revealed] that if they had remained straight on the way, We would have given them abundant provision

#### Verse 17

لِّنَفْتِنَهُمْ فِيهِ ۚ وَمَن يُعْرِضْ عَن ذِكْرِ رَبِّهِ يَسْلُكْهُ عَذَابًا صَعَدًا

**Transliteration:** Linaftinahum feeh; wa many yu'rid 'an zikri rabbihee yasluk hu 'azaaban sa'adaa

**Translation:** So We might test them therein. And whoever turns away from the remembrance of his Lord He will put into arduous punishment.

#### Verse 18

وَأَنَّ الْمَسَاجِدَ لِلَّهِ فَلَا تَدْعُوا مَعَ اللَّهِ أَحَدًا

**Transliteration:** Wa annal masaajida lillaahi falaa tad'oo ma'al laahi ahadaa

**Translation:** And [He revealed] that the masjids are for Allah, so do not invoke with Allah anyone.

#### Verse 19

وَأَنَّهُ لَمَّا قَامَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ يَدْعُوهُ كَادُوا يَكُونُونَ عَلَيْهِ لِبَدًا

**Transliteration:** Wa annahoo lammaa qaama 'adul laahi yad'oohu kaadoo yakoonoona 'alaihi libadaa

**Translation:** And that when the Servant of Allah stood up supplicating Him, they almost became about him a compacted mass."

#### Verse 20

قُلْ إِنَّمَا أَدْعُو رَبِّي وَلَا أُشْرِكُ بِهِ أَحَدًا

**Transliteration:** Qul innamaaa ad'oo rabbee wa laaa ushriku biheee ahadaa

**Translation:** Say, [O Muhammad], "I only invoke my Lord and do not associate with Him anyone."

#### Verse 21

قُلْ إِنِّي لَا أَمْلِكُ لَكُمْ ضَرًّا وَلَا رَشَدًا

**Transliteration:** Qul innee laaa amliku lakum darranw wa laa rashadaa

**Translation:** Say, "Indeed, I do not possess for you [the power of] harm or right direction."

#### Verse 22

قُلْ إِنِّي لَن يُجِيرَنِي مِنَ اللَّهِ أَحَدٌ وَلَنْ أَجِدَ مِن دُونِهِ مُلْتَحَدًا

**Transliteration:** Qul innee lany yujeeranee minal laahi ahad, wa lan ajida min doonihee multahadaa

**Translation:** Say, "Indeed, there will never protect me from Allah anyone [if I should disobey], nor will I find in other than Him a refuge.

#### Verse 23

إِلَّا بَلَاغًا مِّنَ اللَّهِ وَرِسَالَاتِهِ ۚ وَمَن يَعْصِ اللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُ فَإِنَّ لَهُ نَارَ جَهَنَّمَ خَالِدِينَ فِيهَا أَبَدًا

**Transliteration:** Illaa balaagham minal laahi wa risaalaatih; wa many ya'sil laaha wa rasoolahoo fa inna lahoo naara jahannama khaalideena feehaaa abadaa

**Translation:** But [I have for you] only notification from Allah, and His messages." And whoever disobeys Allah and His Messenger - then indeed, for him is the fire of Hell; they will abide therein forever.

#### Verse 24

حَتَّىٰ إِذَا رَأَوْا مَا يُوعَدُونَ فَسَيَعْلَمُونَ مَنْ أَضْعَفُ نَاصِرًا وَأَقَلُّ عَدَدًا

**Transliteration:** Hattaaa izaa ra aw maa yoo'adoona fasaya'lamoona man ad'afu naasiranw wa aqallu 'adadaa

**Translation:** [The disbelievers continue] until, when they see that which they are promised, then they will know who is weaker in helpers and less in number.

#### Verse 25

قُلْ إِنْ أَدْرِي أَقَرِيبٌ مَّا تُوعَدُونَ أَمْ يَجْعَلُ لَهُ رَبِّي أَمَدًا

**Transliteration:** Qul in adreee a qareebum maa too'adoona am yaj'alu lahoo rabbeee amadaa

**Translation:** Say, "I do not know if what you are promised is near or if my Lord will grant for it a [long] period."

#### Verse 26

عَالِمُ الْغَيْبِ فَلَا يُظْهِرُ عَلَىٰ غَيْبِهِ أَحَدًا

**Transliteration:** 'Aalimul ghaibi falaa yuzhiru alaa ghaibiheee ahadaa

**Translation:** [He is] Knower of the unseen, and He does not disclose His [knowledge of the] unseen to anyone

#### Verse 27

إِلَّا مَنِ ارْتَضَىٰ مِن رَّسُولٍ فَإِنَّهُ يَسْلُكُ مِن بَيْنِ يَدَيْهِ وَمِنْ خَلْفِهِ رَصَدًا

**Transliteration:** Illaa manir tadaa mir rasoolin fa innahoo yasluku mim baini yadihi wa min khalfihee rasadaa

**Translation:** Except whom He has approved of messengers, and indeed, He sends before each messenger and behind him observers

#### Verse 28

لِّيَعْلَمَ أَن قَدْ أَبْلَغُوا رِسَالَاتِ رَبِّهِمْ وَأَحَاطَ بِمَا لَدَيْهِمْ وَأَحْصَىٰ كُلَّ شَيْءٍ عَدَدًا

**Transliteration:** Liya'lama an qad ablaghoo risaalaati rabbihim wa ahaata bima ladihim wa ahsaa kulla shai'in 'adadaa

**Translation:** That he may know that they have conveyed the messages of their Lord; and He has encompassed whatever is with them and has enumerated all things in number.
