## Al-Qiyaama

**Translation:** The Resurrection
**Revelation:** Meccan
**Number of Verses:** 40

### Pre-Bismillah

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

*In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.*

### Verses

#### Verse 1

لَا أُقْسِمُ بِيَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ

**Transliteration:** Laaa uqsimu bi yawmil qiyaamah

**Translation:** I swear by the Day of Resurrection

#### Verse 2

وَلَا أُقْسِمُ بِالنَّفْسِ اللَّوَّامَةِ

**Transliteration:** Wa laaa uqsimu bin nafsil lawwaamah

**Translation:** And I swear by the reproaching soul [to the certainty of resurrection].

#### Verse 3

أَيَحْسَبُ الْإِنسَانُ أَلَّن نَّجْمَعَ عِظَامَهُ

**Transliteration:** Ayahsabul insaanu al lan najm'a 'izaamah

**Translation:** Does man think that We will not assemble his bones?

#### Verse 4

بَلَىٰ قَادِرِينَ عَلَىٰ أَن نُّسَوِّيَ بَنَانَهُ

**Transliteration:** Balaa qaadireena 'alaaa an nusawwiya banaanah

**Translation:** Yes. [We are] Able [even] to proportion his fingertips.

#### Verse 5

بَلْ يُرِيدُ الْإِنسَانُ لِيَفْجُرَ أَمَامَهُ

**Transliteration:** Bal yureedul insaanu liyafjura amaamah

**Translation:** But man desires to continue in sin.

#### Verse 6

يَسْأَلُ أَيَّانَ يَوْمُ الْقِيَامَةِ

**Transliteration:** Yas'alu ayyyaana yawmul qiyaamah

**Translation:** He asks, "When is the Day of Resurrection?"

#### Verse 7

فَإِذَا بَرِقَ الْبَصَرُ

**Transliteration:** Fa izaa bariqal basar

**Translation:** So when vision is dazzled

#### Verse 8

وَخَسَفَ الْقَمَرُ

**Transliteration:** We khasafal qamar

**Translation:** And the moon darkens

#### Verse 9

وَجُمِعَ الشَّمْسُ وَالْقَمَرُ

**Transliteration:** Wa jumi'ash shamusu wal qamar

**Translation:** And the sun and the moon are joined,

#### Verse 10

يَقُولُ الْإِنسَانُ يَوْمَئِذٍ أَيْنَ الْمَفَرُّ

**Transliteration:** Yaqoolul insaanu yaw ma 'izin aynal mafarr

**Translation:** Man will say on that Day, "Where is the [place of] escape?"

#### Verse 11

كَلَّا لَا وَزَرَ

**Transliteration:** Kallaa laa wazar

**Translation:** No! There is no refuge.

#### Verse 12

إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ يَوْمَئِذٍ الْمُسْتَقَرُّ

**Transliteration:** Ilaa rabbika yawma 'izinil mustaqarr

**Translation:** To your Lord, that Day, is the [place of] permanence.

#### Verse 13

يُنَبَّأُ الْإِنسَانُ يَوْمَئِذٍ بِمَا قَدَّمَ وَأَخَّرَ

**Transliteration:** Yunabba 'ul insaanu yawma 'izim bimaa qaddama wa akhkhar

**Translation:** Man will be informed that Day of what he sent ahead and kept back.

#### Verse 14

بَلِ الْإِنسَانُ عَلَىٰ نَفْسِهِ بَصِيرَةٌ

**Transliteration:** Balil insaanu 'alaa nafsihee baseerah

**Translation:** Rather, man, against himself, will be a witness,

#### Verse 15

وَلَوْ أَلْقَىٰ مَعَاذِيرَهُ

**Transliteration:** Wa law alqaa ma'aazeerah

**Translation:** Even if he presents his excuses.

#### Verse 16

لَا تُحَرِّكْ بِهِ لِسَانَكَ لِتَعْجَلَ بِهِ

**Transliteration:** Laa tuharrik bihee lisaa naka lita'jala bih

**Translation:** Move not your tongue with it, [O Muhammad], to hasten with recitation of the Qur'an.

#### Verse 17

إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا جَمْعَهُ وَقُرْآنَهُ

**Transliteration:** Inna 'alainaa jam'ahoo wa qur aanah

**Translation:** Indeed, upon Us is its collection [in your heart] and [to make possible] its recitation.

#### Verse 18

فَإِذَا قَرَأْنَاهُ فَاتَّبِعْ قُرْآنَهُ

**Transliteration:** Fa izaa qaraanaahu fattabi' qur aanah

**Translation:** So when We have recited it [through Gabriel], then follow its recitation.

#### Verse 19

ثُمَّ إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا بَيَانَهُ

**Transliteration:** Summa inna 'alainaa bayaanah

**Translation:** Then upon Us is its clarification [to you].

#### Verse 20

كَلَّا بَلْ تُحِبُّونَ الْعَاجِلَةَ

**Transliteration:** Kallaa bal tuhibboonal 'aajilah

**Translation:** No! But you love the immediate

#### Verse 21

وَتَذَرُونَ الْآخِرَةَ

**Transliteration:** Wa tazaroonal Aakhirah

**Translation:** And leave the Hereafter.

#### Verse 22

وُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ نَّاضِرَةٌ

**Transliteration:** Wujoohuny yawma 'izin naadirah

**Translation:** [Some] faces, that Day, will be radiant,

#### Verse 23

إِلَىٰ رَبِّهَا نَاظِرَةٌ

**Transliteration:** Ilaa rabbihaa naazirah

**Translation:** Looking at their Lord.

#### Verse 24

وَوُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ بَاسِرَةٌ

**Transliteration:** Wa wujoohuny yawma 'izim baasirah

**Translation:** And [some] faces, that Day, will be contorted,

#### Verse 25

تَظُنُّ أَن يُفْعَلَ بِهَا فَاقِرَةٌ

**Transliteration:** Tazunnu any yuf'ala bihaa faaqirah

**Translation:** Expecting that there will be done to them [something] backbreaking.

#### Verse 26

كَلَّا إِذَا بَلَغَتِ التَّرَاقِيَ

**Transliteration:** Kallaaa izaa balaghatit taraaqee

**Translation:** No! When the soul has reached the collar bones

#### Verse 27

وَقِيلَ مَنْ ۜ رَاقٍ

**Transliteration:** Wa qeela man raaq

**Translation:** And it is said, "Who will cure [him]?"

#### Verse 28

وَظَنَّ أَنَّهُ الْفِرَاقُ

**Transliteration:** Wa zanna annahul firaaq

**Translation:** And the dying one is certain that it is the [time of] separation

#### Verse 29

وَالْتَفَّتِ السَّاقُ بِالسَّاقِ

**Transliteration:** Waltaffatis saaqu bissaaq

**Translation:** And the leg is wound about the leg,

#### Verse 30

إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ يَوْمَئِذٍ الْمَسَاقُ

**Transliteration:** Ilaa rabbika yawma'izinil masaaq

**Translation:** To your Lord, that Day, will be the procession.

#### Verse 31

فَلَا صَدَّقَ وَلَا صَلَّىٰ

**Transliteration:** Falaa saddaqa wa laa sallaa

**Translation:** And the disbeliever had not believed, nor had he prayed.

#### Verse 32

وَلَٰكِن كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ

**Transliteration:** Wa laakin kazzaba wa tawalla

**Translation:** But [instead], he denied and turned away.

#### Verse 33

ثُمَّ ذَهَبَ إِلَىٰ أَهْلِهِ يَتَمَطَّىٰ

**Transliteration:** Summa zahaba ilaaa ahlihee yatamatta

**Translation:** And then he went to his people, swaggering [in pride].

#### Verse 34

أَوْلَىٰ لَكَ فَأَوْلَىٰ

**Transliteration:** Awlaa laka fa awlaa

**Translation:** Woe to you, and woe!

#### Verse 35

ثُمَّ أَوْلَىٰ لَكَ فَأَوْلَىٰ

**Transliteration:** Summa awlaa laka fa awla

**Translation:** Then woe to you, and woe!

#### Verse 36

أَيَحْسَبُ الْإِنسَانُ أَن يُتْرَكَ سُدًى

**Transliteration:** Ayahsabul insaanu anyytraka sudaa

**Translation:** Does man think that he will be left neglected?

#### Verse 37

أَلَمْ يَكُ نُطْفَةً مِّن مَّنِيٍّ يُمْنَىٰ

**Transliteration:** Alam yaku nutfatam mim maniyyiny yumnaa

**Translation:** Had he not been a sperm from semen emitted?

#### Verse 38

ثُمَّ كَانَ عَلَقَةً فَخَلَقَ فَسَوَّىٰ

**Transliteration:** Summa kaana 'alaqata fakhalaq fasawwaa

**Translation:** Then he was a clinging clot, and [Allah] created [his form] and proportioned [him]

#### Verse 39

فَجَعَلَ مِنْهُ الزَّوْجَيْنِ الذَّكَرَ وَالْأُنثَىٰ

**Transliteration:** Faja'ala minhuz zawjayniz zakara wal unsaa

**Translation:** And made of him two mates, the male and the female.

#### Verse 40

أَلَيْسَ ذَٰلِكَ بِقَادِرٍ عَلَىٰ أَن يُحْيِيَ الْمَوْتَىٰ

**Transliteration:** Alaisa zaalika biqaadirin 'alaaa any yuhyiyal mawtaa

**Translation:** Is not that [Creator] Able to give life to the dead?
