## Al-Mutaffifin

**Translation:** Defrauding

### Pre-Bismillah

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

*In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.*

### Verses

#### Verse 1

وَيْلٌ لِّلْمُطَفِّفِينَ

**Transliteration:** Wailul lil mutaffifeen

**Translation:** Woe to those who give less [than due],

#### Verse 2

الَّذِينَ إِذَا اكْتَالُوا عَلَى النَّاسِ يَسْتَوْفُونَ

**Transliteration:** Allazeena izak taaloo 'alan naasi yastawfoon

**Translation:** Who, when they take a measure from people, take in full.

#### Verse 3

وَإِذَا كَالُوهُمْ أَو وَّزَنُوهُمْ يُخْسِرُونَ

**Transliteration:** Wa izaa kaaloohum aw wazanoohum yukhsiroon

**Translation:** But if they give by measure or by weight to them, they cause loss.

#### Verse 4

أَلَا يَظُنُّ أُولَٰئِكَ أَنَّهُم مَّبْعُوثُونَ

**Transliteration:** Alaa yazunnu ulaaa'ika annahum mab'oosoon

**Translation:** Do they not think that they will be resurrected

#### Verse 5

لِيَوْمٍ عَظِيمٍ

**Transliteration:** Li Yawmin 'Azeem

**Translation:** For a tremendous Day -

#### Verse 6

يَوْمَ يَقُومُ النَّاسُ لِرَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ

**Transliteration:** Yawma yaqoomun naasu li Rabbil 'aalameen

**Translation:** The Day when mankind will stand before the Lord of the worlds?

#### Verse 7

كَلَّا إِنَّ كِتَابَ الْفُجَّارِ لَفِي سِجِّينٍ

**Transliteration:** Kallaaa inna kitaabal fujjaari lafee Sijjeen

**Translation:** No! Indeed, the record of the wicked is in sijjeen.

#### Verse 8

وَمَا أَدْرَاكَ مَا سِجِّينٌ

**Transliteration:** Wa maa adraaka maa Sijjeen

**Translation:** And what can make you know what is sijjeen?

#### Verse 9

كِتَابٌ مَّرْقُومٌ

**Transliteration:** Kitaabum marqoom

**Translation:** It is [their destination recorded in] a register inscribed.

#### Verse 10

وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ

**Transliteration:** Wailuny yawma'izil lil mukazzibeen

**Translation:** Woe, that Day, to the deniers,

#### Verse 11

الَّذِينَ يُكَذِّبُونَ بِيَوْمِ الدِّينِ

**Transliteration:** Allazeena yukazziboona bi yawmid deen

**Translation:** Who deny the Day of Recompense.

#### Verse 12

وَمَا يُكَذِّبُ بِهِ إِلَّا كُلُّ مُعْتَدٍ أَثِيمٍ

**Transliteration:** Wa maa yukazzibu biheee illaa kullu mu'tadin aseem

**Translation:** And none deny it except every sinful transgressor.

#### Verse 13

إِذَا تُتْلَىٰ عَلَيْهِ آيَاتُنَا قَالَ أَسَاطِيرُ الْأَوَّلِينَ

**Transliteration:** Izaa tutlaa'alaihi aayaatunaa qaala asaateerul awwaleen

**Translation:** When Our verses are recited to him, he says, "Legends of the former peoples."

#### Verse 14

كَلَّا ۖ بَلْ ۜ رَانَ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِهِم مَّا كَانُوا يَكْسِبُونَ

**Transliteration:** Kallaa bal raana 'alaa quloobihim maa kaanoo yaksiboon

**Translation:** No! Rather, the stain has covered their hearts of that which they were earning.

#### Verse 15

كَلَّا إِنَّهُمْ عَن رَّبِّهِمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ لَّمَحْجُوبُونَ

**Transliteration:** Kallaaa innahum 'ar Rabbihim yawma'izil lamah jooboon

**Translation:** No! Indeed, from their Lord, that Day, they will be partitioned.

#### Verse 16

ثُمَّ إِنَّهُمْ لَصَالُو الْجَحِيمِ

**Transliteration:** Summa innahum lasaa lul jaheem

**Translation:** Then indeed, they will [enter and] burn in Hellfire.

#### Verse 17

ثُمَّ يُقَالُ هَٰذَا الَّذِي كُنتُم بِهِ تُكَذِّبُونَ

**Transliteration:** Summa yuqaalu haazal lazee kuntum bihee tukazziboon

**Translation:** Then it will be said [to them], "This is what you used to deny."

#### Verse 18

كَلَّا إِنَّ كِتَابَ الْأَبْرَارِ لَفِي عِلِّيِّينَ

**Transliteration:** Kallaaa inna kitaabal abraari lafee'Illiyyeen

**Translation:** No! Indeed, the record of the righteous is in 'illiyyun.

#### Verse 19

وَمَا أَدْرَاكَ مَا عِلِّيُّونَ

**Transliteration:** Wa maaa adraaka maa 'Illiyyoon

**Translation:** And what can make you know what is 'illiyyun?

#### Verse 20

كِتَابٌ مَّرْقُومٌ

**Transliteration:** Kitaabum marqoom

**Translation:** It is [their destination recorded in] a register inscribed

#### Verse 21

يَشْهَدُهُ الْمُقَرَّبُونَ

**Transliteration:** Yashhadu hul muqarra boon

**Translation:** Which is witnessed by those brought near [to Allah].

#### Verse 22

إِنَّ الْأَبْرَارَ لَفِي نَعِيمٍ

**Transliteration:** Innal abraara lafee Na'eem

**Translation:** Indeed, the righteous will be in pleasure

#### Verse 23

عَلَى الْأَرَائِكِ يَنظُرُونَ

**Transliteration:** 'Alal araaa'iki yanzuroon

**Translation:** On adorned couches, observing.

#### Verse 24

تَعْرِفُ فِي وُجُوهِهِمْ نَضْرَةَ النَّعِيمِ

**Transliteration:** Ta'rifu fee wujoohihim nadratan na'eem

**Translation:** You will recognize in their faces the radiance of pleasure.

#### Verse 25

يُسْقَوْنَ مِن رَّحِيقٍ مَّخْتُومٍ

**Transliteration:** Yusqawna mir raheeqim makhtoom

**Translation:** They will be given to drink [pure] wine [which was] sealed.

#### Verse 26

خِتَامُهُ مِسْكٌ ۚ وَفِي ذَٰلِكَ فَلْيَتَنَافَسِ الْمُتَنَافِسُونَ

**Transliteration:** Khitaamuhoo misk; wa fee zaalika falyatanaafasil Mutanaafisoon

**Translation:** The last of it is musk. So for this let the competitors compete.

#### Verse 27

وَمِزَاجُهُ مِن تَسْنِيمٍ

**Transliteration:** Wa mizaajuhoo min Tasneem

**Translation:** And its mixture is of Tasneem,

#### Verse 28

عَيْنًا يَشْرَبُ بِهَا الْمُقَرَّبُونَ

**Transliteration:** 'Ainaiy yashrabu bihal muqarraboon

**Translation:** A spring from which those near [to Allah] drink.

#### Verse 29

إِنَّ الَّذِينَ أَجْرَمُوا كَانُوا مِنَ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا يَضْحَكُونَ

**Transliteration:** Innal lazeena ajramoo kaanoo minal lazeena aamanoo yadhakoon

**Translation:** Indeed, those who committed crimes used to laugh at those who believed.

#### Verse 30

وَإِذَا مَرُّوا بِهِمْ يَتَغَامَزُونَ

**Transliteration:** Wa izaa marroo bihim yataghaamazoon

**Translation:** And when they passed by them, they would exchange derisive glances.

#### Verse 31

وَإِذَا انقَلَبُوا إِلَىٰ أَهْلِهِمُ انقَلَبُوا فَكِهِينَ

**Transliteration:** Wa izan qalabooo ilaaa ahlihimun qalaboo fakiheen

**Translation:** And when they returned to their people, they would return jesting.

#### Verse 32

وَإِذَا رَأَوْهُمْ قَالُوا إِنَّ هَٰؤُلَاءِ لَضَالُّونَ

**Transliteration:** Wa izaa ra awhum qaalooo inna haaa'ulaaa'i ladaaal loon

**Translation:** And when they saw them, they would say, "Indeed, those are truly lost."

#### Verse 33

وَمَا أُرْسِلُوا عَلَيْهِمْ حَافِظِينَ

**Transliteration:** Wa maaa ursiloo 'alaihim haafizeen

**Translation:** But they had not been sent as guardians over them.

#### Verse 34

فَالْيَوْمَ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا مِنَ الْكُفَّارِ يَضْحَكُونَ

**Transliteration:** Fal yawmal lazeena aamanoo minal kuffaari yadhakoon

**Translation:** So Today those who believed are laughing at the disbelievers,

#### Verse 35

عَلَى الْأَرَائِكِ يَنظُرُونَ

**Transliteration:** 'Alal araaa'iki yanzuroon

**Translation:** On adorned couches, observing.

#### Verse 36

هَلْ ثُوِّبَ الْكُفَّارُ مَا كَانُوا يَفْعَلُونَ

**Transliteration:** Hal suwwibal kuffaaru maa kaanoo yaf'aloon

**Translation:** Have the disbelievers [not] been rewarded [this Day] for what they used to do?
