## Al-Ghaashiya

**Translation:** The Overwhelming
**Revelation:** Meccan
**Number of Verses:** 26

### Pre-Bismillah

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

*In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.*

### Verses

#### Verse 1

هَلْ أَتَاكَ حَدِيثُ الْغَاشِيَةِ

**Transliteration:** Hal ataaka hadeesul ghaashiyah

**Translation:** Has there reached you the report of the Overwhelming [event]?

#### Verse 2

وُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ خَاشِعَةٌ

**Transliteration:** Wujoohuny yawma 'izin khaashi'ah

**Translation:** [Some] faces, that Day, will be humbled,

#### Verse 3

عَامِلَةٌ نَّاصِبَةٌ

**Transliteration:** 'Aamilatun naasibah

**Translation:** Working [hard] and exhausted.

#### Verse 4

تَصْلَىٰ نَارًا حَامِيَةً

**Transliteration:** Taslaa naaran haamiyah

**Translation:** They will [enter to] burn in an intensely hot Fire.

#### Verse 5

تُسْقَىٰ مِنْ عَيْنٍ آنِيَةٍ

**Transliteration:** Tusqaa min 'aynin aaniyah

**Translation:** They will be given drink from a boiling spring.

#### Verse 6

لَّيْسَ لَهُمْ طَعَامٌ إِلَّا مِن ضَرِيعٍ

**Transliteration:** Laisa lahum ta'aamun illaa min daree'

**Translation:** For them there will be no food except from a poisonous, thorny plant

#### Verse 7

لَّا يُسْمِنُ وَلَا يُغْنِي مِن جُوعٍ

**Transliteration:** Laa yusminu wa laa yughnee min joo'

**Translation:** Which neither nourishes nor avails against hunger.

#### Verse 8

وُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ نَّاعِمَةٌ

**Transliteration:** Wujoohuny yawma 'izin naa'imah

**Translation:** [Other] faces, that Day, will show pleasure.

#### Verse 9

لِّسَعْيِهَا رَاضِيَةٌ

**Transliteration:** Lisa'yihaa raadiyah

**Translation:** With their effort [they are] satisfied

#### Verse 10

فِي جَنَّةٍ عَالِيَةٍ

**Transliteration:** Fee jannatin 'aaliyah

**Translation:** In an elevated garden,

#### Verse 11

لَّا تَسْمَعُ فِيهَا لَاغِيَةً

**Transliteration:** Laa tasma'u feehaa laaghiyah

**Translation:** Wherein they will hear no unsuitable speech.

#### Verse 12

فِيهَا عَيْنٌ جَارِيَةٌ

**Transliteration:** Feehaa 'aynun jaariyah

**Translation:** Within it is a flowing spring.

#### Verse 13

فِيهَا سُرُرٌ مَّرْفُوعَةٌ

**Transliteration:** Feehaa sururum marfoo'ah

**Translation:** Within it are couches raised high

#### Verse 14

وَأَكْوَابٌ مَّوْضُوعَةٌ

**Transliteration:** Wa akwaabum mawdoo 'ah

**Translation:** And cups put in place

#### Verse 15

وَنَمَارِقُ مَصْفُوفَةٌ

**Transliteration:** Wa namaariqu masfoofah

**Translation:** And cushions lined up

#### Verse 16

وَزَرَابِيُّ مَبْثُوثَةٌ

**Transliteration:** Wa zaraabiyyu mabsoosah

**Translation:** And carpets spread around.

#### Verse 17

أَفَلَا يَنظُرُونَ إِلَى الْإِبِلِ كَيْفَ خُلِقَتْ

**Transliteration:** Afalaa yanzuroona ilalibili kaifa khuliqat

**Translation:** Then do they not look at the camels - how they are created?

#### Verse 18

وَإِلَى السَّمَاءِ كَيْفَ رُفِعَتْ

**Transliteration:** Wa ilas samaaa'i kaifa rufi'at

**Translation:** And at the sky - how it is raised?

#### Verse 19

وَإِلَى الْجِبَالِ كَيْفَ نُصِبَتْ

**Transliteration:** Wa ilal jibaali kaifa nusibat

**Translation:** And at the mountains - how they are erected?

#### Verse 20

وَإِلَى الْأَرْضِ كَيْفَ سُطِحَتْ

**Transliteration:** Wa ilal ardi kaifa sutihat

**Translation:** And at the earth - how it is spread out?

#### Verse 21

فَذَكِّرْ إِنَّمَا أَنتَ مُذَكِّرٌ

**Transliteration:** Fazakkir innama anta Muzakkir

**Translation:** So remind, [O Muhammad]; you are only a reminder.

#### Verse 22

لَّسْتَ عَلَيْهِم بِمُصَيْطِرٍ

**Transliteration:** Lasta 'alaihim bimusaitir

**Translation:** You are not over them a controller.

#### Verse 23

إِلَّا مَن تَوَلَّىٰ وَكَفَرَ

**Transliteration:** Illaa man tawallaa wa kafar

**Translation:** However, he who turns away and disbelieves -

#### Verse 24

فَيُعَذِّبُهُ اللَّهُ الْعَذَابَ الْأَكْبَرَ

**Transliteration:** Fa yu'azzibuhul laahul 'azaabal akbar

**Translation:** Then Allah will punish him with the greatest punishment.

#### Verse 25

إِنَّ إِلَيْنَا إِيَابَهُمْ

**Transliteration:** Innaa ilainaaa iyaabahum

**Translation:** Indeed, to Us is their return.

#### Verse 26

ثُمَّ إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا حِسَابَهُم

**Transliteration:** Summa inna 'alainaa hisaabahum

**Translation:** Then indeed, upon Us is their account.
