## Al-Fajr

**Translation:** The Dawn
**Revelation:** Meccan
**Number of Verses:** 30

### Pre-Bismillah

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

*In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.*

### Verses

#### Verse 1

وَالْفَجْرِ

**Transliteration:** Wal-Fajr

**Translation:** By the dawn

#### Verse 2

وَلَيَالٍ عَشْرٍ

**Transliteration:** Wa layaalin 'ashr

**Translation:** And [by] ten nights

#### Verse 3

وَالشَّفْعِ وَالْوَتْرِ

**Transliteration:** Wash shaf'i wal watr

**Translation:** And [by] the even [number] and the odd

#### Verse 4

وَاللَّيْلِ إِذَا يَسْرِ

**Transliteration:** Wallaili izaa yasr

**Translation:** And [by] the night when it passes,

#### Verse 5

هَلْ فِي ذَٰلِكَ قَسَمٌ لِّذِي حِجْرٍ

**Transliteration:** Hal fee zaalika qasamul lizee hijr

**Translation:** Is there [not] in [all] that an oath [sufficient] for one of perception?

#### Verse 6

أَلَمْ تَرَ كَيْفَ فَعَلَ رَبُّكَ بِعَادٍ

**Transliteration:** Alam tara kaifa fa'ala rabbuka bi'aad

**Translation:** Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with 'Aad -

#### Verse 7

إِرَمَ ذَاتِ الْعِمَادِ

**Transliteration:** Iramaa zaatil 'imaad

**Translation:** [With] Iram - who had lofty pillars,

#### Verse 8

الَّتِي لَمْ يُخْلَقْ مِثْلُهَا فِي الْبِلَادِ

**Transliteration:** Allatee lam yukhlaq misluhaa fil bilaad

**Translation:** The likes of whom had never been created in the land?

#### Verse 9

وَثَمُودَ الَّذِينَ جَابُوا الصَّخْرَ بِالْوَادِ

**Transliteration:** Wa samoodal lazeena jaabus sakhra bil waad

**Translation:** And [with] Thamud, who carved out the rocks in the valley?

#### Verse 10

وَفِرْعَوْنَ ذِي الْأَوْتَادِ

**Transliteration:** Wa fir'awna zil awtaad

**Translation:** And [with] Pharaoh, owner of the stakes? -

#### Verse 11

الَّذِينَ طَغَوْا فِي الْبِلَادِ

**Transliteration:** Allazeena taghaw fil bilaad

**Translation:** [All of] whom oppressed within the lands

#### Verse 12

فَأَكْثَرُوا فِيهَا الْفَسَادَ

**Transliteration:** Fa aksaroo feehal fasaad

**Translation:** And increased therein the corruption.

#### Verse 13

فَصَبَّ عَلَيْهِمْ رَبُّكَ سَوْطَ عَذَابٍ

**Transliteration:** Fasabba 'alaihim Rabbuka sawta 'azaab

**Translation:** So your Lord poured upon them a scourge of punishment.

#### Verse 14

إِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَبِالْمِرْصَادِ

**Transliteration:** Inna Rabbaka labil mirsaad

**Translation:** Indeed, your Lord is in observation.

#### Verse 15

فَأَمَّا الْإِنسَانُ إِذَا مَا ابْتَلَاهُ رَبُّهُ فَأَكْرَمَهُ وَنَعَّمَهُ فَيَقُولُ رَبِّي أَكْرَمَنِ

**Transliteration:** Fa ammal insaanu izaa mab talaahu Rabbuhoo fa akramahoo wa na' 'amahoo fa yaqoolu Rabbeee akraman

**Translation:** And as for man, when his Lord tries him and [thus] is generous to him and favors him, he says, "My Lord has honored me."

#### Verse 16

وَأَمَّا إِذَا مَا ابْتَلَاهُ فَقَدَرَ عَلَيْهِ رِزْقَهُ فَيَقُولُ رَبِّي أَهَانَنِ

**Transliteration:** Wa ammaaa izaa mabtalaahu faqadara 'alaihi rizqahoo fa yaqoolu Rabbeee ahaanan

**Translation:** But when He tries him and restricts his provision, he says, "My Lord has humiliated me."

#### Verse 17

كَلَّا ۖ بَل لَّا تُكْرِمُونَ الْيَتِيمَ

**Transliteration:** Kalla bal laa tukrimooo nal yateem

**Translation:** No! But you do not honor the orphan

#### Verse 18

وَلَا تَحَاضُّونَ عَلَىٰ طَعَامِ الْمِسْكِينِ

**Transliteration:** Wa laa tahaaaddoona 'alaata'aamil miskeen

**Translation:** And you do not encourage one another to feed the poor.

#### Verse 19

وَتَأْكُلُونَ التُّرَاثَ أَكْلًا لَّمًّا

**Transliteration:** Wa taakuloonat turaasa aklal lammaa

**Translation:** And you consume inheritance, devouring [it] altogether,

#### Verse 20

وَتُحِبُّونَ الْمَالَ حُبًّا جَمًّا

**Transliteration:** Wa tuhibboonal maala hubban jammaa

**Translation:** And you love wealth with immense love.

#### Verse 21

كَلَّا إِذَا دُكَّتِ الْأَرْضُ دَكًّا دَكًّا

**Transliteration:** Kallaaa izaaa dukkatil ardu dakkan dakka

**Translation:** No! When the earth has been leveled - pounded and crushed -

#### Verse 22

وَجَاءَ رَبُّكَ وَالْمَلَكُ صَفًّا صَفًّا

**Transliteration:** Wa jaaa'a Rabbuka wal malaku saffan saffaa

**Translation:** And your Lord has come and the angels, rank upon rank,

#### Verse 23

وَجِيءَ يَوْمَئِذٍ بِجَهَنَّمَ ۚ يَوْمَئِذٍ يَتَذَكَّرُ الْإِنسَانُ وَأَنَّىٰ لَهُ الذِّكْرَىٰ

**Transliteration:** Wa jeee'a yawma'izim bi jahannnam; Yawma 'iziny yatazakkarul insaanu wa annaa lahuz zikraa

**Translation:** And brought [within view], that Day, is Hell - that Day, man will remember, but what good to him will be the remembrance?

#### Verse 24

يَقُولُ يَا لَيْتَنِي قَدَّمْتُ لِحَيَاتِي

**Transliteration:** Yaqoolu yaa laitanee qaddamtu lihayaatee

**Translation:** He will say, "Oh, I wish I had sent ahead [some good] for my life."

#### Verse 25

فَيَوْمَئِذٍ لَّا يُعَذِّبُ عَذَابَهُ أَحَدٌ

**Transliteration:** Fa Yawma izil laa yu'azzibu 'azaabahooo ahad

**Translation:** So on that Day, none will punish [as severely] as His punishment,

#### Verse 26

وَلَا يُوثِقُ وَثَاقَهُ أَحَدٌ

**Transliteration:** Wa laa yoosiqu wasaaqa hooo ahad

**Translation:** And none will bind [as severely] as His binding [of the evildoers].

#### Verse 27

يَا أَيَّتُهَا النَّفْسُ الْمُطْمَئِنَّةُ

**Transliteration:** Yaaa ayyatuhan nafsul mutma 'innah

**Translation:** [To the righteous it will be said], "O reassured soul,

#### Verse 28

ارْجِعِي إِلَىٰ رَبِّكِ رَاضِيَةً مَّرْضِيَّةً

**Transliteration:** Irji'eee ilaa Rabbiki raadiyatam mardiyyah

**Translation:** Return to your Lord, well-pleased and pleasing [to Him],

#### Verse 29

فَادْخُلِي فِي عِبَادِي

**Transliteration:** Fadkhulee fee 'ibaadee

**Translation:** And enter among My [righteous] servants

#### Verse 30

وَادْخُلِي جَنَّتِي

**Transliteration:** Wadkhulee jannatee

**Translation:** And enter My Paradise."
