# Nakafa Framework: LLM URL: https://nakafa.com/en/quran/90 Al-Quran - Surah Al-Balad (The City) --- ## Al-Balad **Translation:** The City **Revelation:** Meccan **Number of Verses:** 20 ### Pre-Bismillah بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ *In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.* ### Verses #### Verse 1 لَا أُقْسِمُ بِهَٰذَا الْبَلَدِ **Transliteration:** Laaa uqsimu bihaazal balad **Translation:** I swear by this city, Makkah - #### Verse 2 وَأَنتَ حِلٌّ بِهَٰذَا الْبَلَدِ **Transliteration:** Wa anta hillum bihaazal balad **Translation:** And you, [O Muhammad], are free of restriction in this city - #### Verse 3 وَوَالِدٍ وَمَا وَلَدَ **Transliteration:** Wa waalidinw wa maa walad **Translation:** And [by] the father and that which was born [of him], #### Verse 4 لَقَدْ خَلَقْنَا الْإِنسَانَ فِي كَبَدٍ **Transliteration:** Laqad khalaqnal insaana fee kabad **Translation:** We have certainly created man into hardship. #### Verse 5 أَيَحْسَبُ أَن لَّن يَقْدِرَ عَلَيْهِ أَحَدٌ **Transliteration:** Ayahsabu al-lai yaqdira 'alaihi ahad **Translation:** Does he think that never will anyone overcome him? #### Verse 6 يَقُولُ أَهْلَكْتُ مَالًا لُّبَدًا **Transliteration:** Yaqoolu ahlaktu maalal lubadaa **Translation:** He says, "I have spent wealth in abundance." #### Verse 7 أَيَحْسَبُ أَن لَّمْ يَرَهُ أَحَدٌ **Transliteration:** Ayahsabu al lam yarahooo ahad **Translation:** Does he think that no one has seen him? #### Verse 8 أَلَمْ نَجْعَل لَّهُ عَيْنَيْنِ **Transliteration:** Alam naj'al lahoo 'aynayn **Translation:** Have We not made for him two eyes? #### Verse 9 وَلِسَانًا وَشَفَتَيْنِ **Transliteration:** Wa lisaananw wa shafatayn **Translation:** And a tongue and two lips? #### Verse 10 وَهَدَيْنَاهُ النَّجْدَيْنِ **Transliteration:** Wa hadaynaahun najdayn **Translation:** And have shown him the two ways? #### Verse 11 فَلَا اقْتَحَمَ الْعَقَبَةَ **Transliteration:** Falaq tahamal-'aqabah **Translation:** But he has not broken through the difficult pass. #### Verse 12 وَمَا أَدْرَاكَ مَا الْعَقَبَةُ **Transliteration:** Wa maaa adraaka mal'aqabah **Translation:** And what can make you know what is [breaking through] the difficult pass? #### Verse 13 فَكُّ رَقَبَةٍ **Transliteration:** Fakku raqabah **Translation:** It is the freeing of a slave #### Verse 14 أَوْ إِطْعَامٌ فِي يَوْمٍ ذِي مَسْغَبَةٍ **Transliteration:** Aw it'aamun fee yawmin zee masghabah **Translation:** Or feeding on a day of severe hunger #### Verse 15 يَتِيمًا ذَا مَقْرَبَةٍ **Transliteration:** Yateeman zaa maqrabah **Translation:** An orphan of near relationship #### Verse 16 أَوْ مِسْكِينًا ذَا مَتْرَبَةٍ **Transliteration:** Aw miskeenan zaa matrabah **Translation:** Or a needy person in misery #### Verse 17 ثُمَّ كَانَ مِنَ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَتَوَاصَوْا بِالصَّبْرِ وَتَوَاصَوْا بِالْمَرْحَمَةِ **Transliteration:** Summa kaana minal lazeena aamanoo wa tawaasaw bissabri wa tawaasaw bilmarhamah **Translation:** And then being among those who believed and advised one another to patience and advised one another to compassion. #### Verse 18 أُولَٰئِكَ أَصْحَابُ الْمَيْمَنَةِ **Transliteration:** Ulaaa'ika As-haabul maimanah **Translation:** Those are the companions of the right. #### Verse 19 وَالَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا بِآيَاتِنَا هُمْ أَصْحَابُ الْمَشْأَمَةِ **Transliteration:** Wallazeena kafaroo bi aayaatinaa hum as-haabul Mash'amah **Translation:** But they who disbelieved in Our signs - those are the companions of the left. #### Verse 20 عَلَيْهِمْ نَارٌ مُّؤْصَدَةٌ **Transliteration:** Alaihim naarum mu'sadah **Translation:** Over them will be fire closed in.
